Tonight: buffaBLOG Holiday Party

Tonight, the staff at buffaBLOG comes together to celebrate our 3rd annual holiday party at Duke's and you are all invited. This year, our party falls extremely close to Christmas in hopes to reign in a few Buffalo ex-pats and friends returning home for the holidays, those who normally may not get a chance to come to one of our shows. Throughout the week, we have been previewing our rather impressive lineup, at least I think it is, and in case you missed any of the spotlight posts, you can catch up below:

DJ Lulu and David Lee Rad of Crushes will acting as our house DJs of the evening, keeping the party going between between sets and until last call. Music starts at 10pm sharp. Cover is only $5. Dress festive, bring some holiday cheer, and we will see you tonight.

Introducing Rochester's Genesee Live

We are quite fond of recording studio Quiet Country Audio and their live session series here at the blog. In Rochester, our sister city to the east, there is a similar type of series that you should be checking out. Genesee Live, a music webseries founded in September of 2012, has been releasing interviews, full-length performances, and other videos from Rochester acts all year long. The web series recorded and released their first live show back in February, featuring a performance from Maybird's lead singer Josh Netsky at the Bug Jar. Past installments have included showcases from some Rochester's best acts, including Mikaela Davis, holiday party artist SPORTS, and our personal favorite in the series so far, Harmonica Lewinski. All past features can be viewed here.

Yesterday, Genesee Live released their 10th installment in their performance series, a December taping from Cottage Jefferson, who placed at #8 in our favorite Rochester songs of 2013, at the Lovin' Cup. You may watch the full clip below.

buffaBLOG Holiday Party Artist Spotlight: SPORTS

Joining us from Rochester, SPORTS bring their game to Buffalo as the second act of buffaBLOG's Holiday Party 2013. Known for their tight indie pop songs, the band have opened for Ra Ra Riot, Beach Fossils, and Wild Nothing. Alternately recalling the Cars, Elvis Costello, and Vampire Weekend, SPORTS blend organ and guitar rock with addictive results. Come party with them on December 21 at Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar as buffaBLOG celebrates a new holiday tradition.

Just Announced: buffaBLOG Holiday Party

Whether you like it or not, the holidays are here. So rather than complain about how early Star 102.5 busted out the Christmas songs this time around, suck it up and spend part of the holiday season with the blog as we throw our next holiday party at Duke's on Saturday, December 21st. For this year's holiday shindig, we will be featuring performances from Buffalo fresh faces Marine Biologist, Del Paxton, Forealists, and JOHNS, in addition to Rochester regulars SPORTS and house DJs of the evening, DJ LuLu & David Lee Rad. As always, music kicks off at 10pm with a cover of only $5. Festive attire is certainly welcome. See you then.

Tonight: Sports & Son of the Sun

Tonight might as well be a showcase for two of western NY's best rock bands. Son of the Sun, from Buffalo, deliver indie flavored rock'n'roll in heavy doses. Some of their songs remind me of the Church, and that is always a good thing.

Representing Rochester is Sports, a joyous, pre-punk band with melodies for days. My immediate impression is Elvis Costello goes surfing or maybe the Beach Boys...not necessarily in sound but in vibe. They're good.

Anyways, they're playing tonight at DBGB's at 9pm for only $5. You should go.
