The Tins are one of the most covered acts on buffaBLOG. And for good reason. They are completely and utterly fantastic. Everything they've put out gets stuck in your head and isn't that the sign of "good" music?

Tonight marks the celebration and release of the bands newest effort Life's A Gas. The album release takes place at Nietsches (9pm), along with several other Buffalo staples:  Handsome Jack, Dotsun Moon and DJ Handsome Dan. This is the a-ha moment when you realize this is the best show going in town tonight and you should be there. A-HA!

This October marks the 30th anniversary of 91.3 WBNY's existence as an FM station. The station, also known as "Buffalo's Original Alternative," has been almost completely student-run since it officially swapped over from AM to FM in October of 1982. The highly influential college radio station, which is well-known for its support of Buffalo's local music scene, is perhaps best known for its "Local Show" hosted every Thursday from 7pm - 10pm by buffaBLOG's very own Michael Moretti. 

Buffalo State will be hosting a number of events in celebration of WBNY's 30th anniversary, culminating in the "91.3 FM WBNY 30th Anniversary Concert" this Friday, October 5th, at 7:00pm. In the spirit of celebrating local music, the show will feature four Buffalo-based bands - Dotsun Moon, Whiskey Reverb, Intent to Sell, and Dr. OOO. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for the general public - you can pick them up at the Rockwell Hall Box Office.

The perfect way for you to top off an awesome day 8 of the festival is with a performance by The Merchants from 11-11:45 at Nietzsche’s in Allentown. The four-piece grunge rockers' performance at DBGB's took the #2 spot on our Infringement list last year, and they've only gotten better since. How do we know this for sure, you ask? Well, because they played our Broadway Market Rooftop Party just last weekend! That's how!

We have reached the end of the line with 2011. Tomorrow begins a new year, a chance to start fresh, put your life in perspective, and make some changes. Lets not jump the gun though. We still have to get through tonight. If you are in the mood for live music tonight, there seems to be an endless amount of choices. If you wish for more of an intimate evening of tunes, head over to Merge tonight where Dotsun Moon will be ringing in the new year in their chilled and relaxed style. The band combines the sounds of trip hop, post-punk, house, and synth pop into a pleasing sound. The group will be playing both new and old tunes tonight, many from their April released 4 a.m. album. DJ Sam Plur will fill in the spaces between sets with a nice mixture of tunes from post-punk to chill wave. Show starts at 9:00pm and as always with Merge, cover is free.
