Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 11


Welp, today is Day Eleven, which means: another Buffalo Infringement Festival has (just about) come and gone. Almost a thousand live performances, readings, and art/film showings in eleven days? If you didn't immerse yourself in it, or at least go to check out a friend's band in some random corner of the city at some random time on some random day in the last week or so, then you really missed out. We've watched the volunteer organizers' heads nearly explode, spectacularly, and seen some unexpected excellent performances. But the real hero this week is my liver (sorry, little buddy).

To show your thanks to all the folks who put this together, and check out some fine, fine, infringey bands, head to Nietzsche's for the closing ceremonies (featuring Erin Sydney Welsh, PROJEX, Cavalcade, Axis of Evil, and Zongo Junction) tonight from 8PM til Nietzsche's-O-Clock. Otherwise, there's still a plethora of other going-ons going down today. Some suggestions?

DEATH DISNEY
Social commentary in the form of street art from one of the Toats Orig dudes. If you haven't already checked it out, make your way down to The Vault (702 Main St)...

The Haunted Buffalo
The solo music by Eric Charles T is described on the Infringement site as “acoustic horror... a mix of horror, camp, and coffee, peppered with occasional punk rock & country western covers.” Let this 4PM performance be your reason to check out the recently expanded Allentown Music (1113 Elmwood).

Three Bands at Tudor Lounge
If you missed alt-pop group Victory For Poland at our rooftop party last week, then make it a point to check them out at Tudor Lounge (335 Franklin) tonight. We liked them so much, I think we hired one of them (?). They'll be sharing the stage with the spacey Suffolk & Rain, along with indie-rockers Sea Snake Vs. - who played our rooftop show last year, and have hands down the best description in the Official Infringement Guide - look it up. Music starts at 8PM.


OK, that's just a couple suggestions. I know there's probably some great zombie/gay vampire/medieval TV show on HBO or AMC that you don't want to miss, but you should really get outside and check out the Festival. It's pretty cool and it's made out of Real Life.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 10


Well its super hot outside today so as soon it starts cooling down a bit do not miss all the stuff going on tonight! We only have one day left so its extra important you make it to these shows!!!!!


Tonight at McCarthy's Pub on Hamburg Street, we have buffaBLOG favs Andrew J Reimer's Country Punk Extravaganza, singer-songwriter Shane Hall, and The Merchants. The show goes from 7-10:30.


For more musical experiences, theres a Meaty Music Masquerade Ball going on at Broadway Joe's from 9 - 1:30 featuring Cavalcade, Noah Gokey and the Skulls, The Moves, Maybe The Welders and The We Couldn't Afford The Bootsy Collins All Star Project. The last one sounds extra fun with their description on the infringement website consisting of: "These gentleman (term used loosely) will improvise a song in every key of Western Music (excluding sharps/flats) with a subject corresponding to that key, as suggested by the audience."


If you are the costume wearing mood (which should be always) then dress up like an alien or space traveler for a sci-fi night at Nietzsches.  As always, there will be a terrific line up of bands with a Sci-Fi theme to the night.  Its only $3 to get in if you wear a costume.  Make sure you are there for Scantron!!!!


Pick one of these events and mix it in with some Hoopnosis at Day's Park (9pm) and you are all set to infringe away!

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 9


If I had it my way, Infringement would last two months, not two weeks. Now we are onto night nine of Infringement. 


9pm RonaldRaygun @ Mohawk 
2012 has been a big year for Raygun. First, former front man Steve Gordon stepped to the side to focus more on his guitar licks. Second, Gordon was replaced with riot girl songstress Ashley Kyle. The addition of Kyle’s gritty, raw vocals influenced by her classic rock idols has revamped the band’s previous indie rock leanings to a whole new direction. Now they are like if Bif Naked added a theramin. I bet you a hundred dollars their bassist wears huge sunglasses. 


10pm – Handsome Jack, Sleepy Hahas, The Screaming Jeans @ DBGB’s 
Two veterans of buffaBLOG’s Infringement Party (Handsome Jack and Sleepy Haha’s) will team up with alt-rock quartet The Screaming Jeans. Handsome Jack’s feel good retro –blues rock will make you feel like you are time traveling back to the 70s, but only until Sleepy Hahas bring you back to speed with their modern indie rock a la Arctic Monkeys/Queens of the Stone Age. 

2am – The Love Scenes @ Soundlab 
Electronic duo consisting of Buffalo’s indie songstress Leah Loefke and the Teller to her Penn TJ Grace. The two will be playing select songs off their recently released album Blissed Out Youth. It will be a late one, but the band’s perfect combination of dreamy vocals with upbeat electronic instrumentation will be a great way to come down while staying up on another fun-filled Infringement fueled night.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 8



Hold on to your caps. Day 8 (only 4 more left!) of the Buffalo Infringement Festival might be the best yet with a packed schedule of music, art, theatre, storytelling, and much more. You can check out my top 3 pics for the day below, but if you're interested in checking out the entire scehedule (which I propose you do because there's like over 50 other things going on) go here.
Clips and Blips Film Night
If you’re into short films, Sp@ce 224 will be showing eight of them starting at 7pm and ending at 8:45. A few of the films, including Dreams and Deep In the Woods, are produced by Celestial Lynx Cinema, run by Jordan Bianchi, a talented young director who is currently attending SUNY Oswego for filmmaking. You'll definitely want to peak your head in to catch any one of these films. Many of them are under 10 minutes in length.  A list of the films reads below:

Dotsun Moon
Electro-pop quartet Dotsun Moon will be playing the gorgeous Ninth Ward from 9-9:45pm. The group released their debut album, 4 am, last spring and the title pretty much speaks for itself in that it is the perfect set of songs to get you into the nighttime Infringment spirit. 


The Merchants
The perfect way for you to top off an awesome day 8 of the festival is with a performance by The Merchants from 11-11:45 at Nietzsche’s in Allentown. The four-piece grunge rockers' performance at DBGB's took the #2 spot on our Infringement list last year, and they've only gotten better since. How do we know this for sure, you ask? Well, because they played our Broadway Market Rooftop Party just last weekend! That's how!

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 7


Lucky day number seven of Infringement and lucky for you to get my picks of what to do today/tonight for events and showcases! With my background in the Buffalo theatre community I'd like to share with you a few other (not entirely musical) performances going on tonight:

Homegrown Film Night
Lovers of film, and local film, will want to check out the Homegrown Film showcase at Hallwalls tonight. Seven Infringement projects can be seen beginning from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm including two that I am very interested in. The first is called Riding on the Edge: Bicycling in Buffalo which is a short documentary that is aimed at capturing the culture of cycling in Buffalo. Also of note is the project from my friend Vj Deliria which presents abstract interpretations of everyday life objects, light, and landscapes. Viewing at EL MUSEO, 91 allen st. Buffalo, NY. 

Symphony-theatreFiguren
At Hardware Cafe, you can check out a unique Infringement offering that entails a mixed medium performance of puppetry, scrolling art, and poetry by theatreFiguren. All of which combine to tell the story of a forgotten man and his dog. The action is scored by Aaron Copland's "Symphony #3" which is the best known American symphony of the 20th century. The fourth movement is the most well known as it is a varriation of Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.  Puppetry is I feel, an underated expression of character. And it isn't often that Buffalo is exposed to puppetry in perfomrance or the creators of the puppets themselves! Performance begins at 7 pm and lasts appoximately an hour. He Who Gets Slapped-Torn Space Theater
Best described as a unique piece of absurdist theater that evokes timeless and current issues of society and humanity. "He Who Gets Slapped" by Leonid Andreyev is told from the view of an intellectual who has delved into the life of a clown and struggling to exist in a world of social issues. Torn Space is one of Buffalo's best theaters because they are always pushing the boundaries with the experimental work that they do. They are also known for their use of found and unconventional spaces for performance. This particular space, The Foundry building, formerly Buffalo ReUse is exactly that. "He Who Gets Slapped" is directed by Megan Callahan. Admission is $10.00 and more information about tickets can be found HERE. All performances are at 8 pm. THE FOUNDRY, 298 northampton st. Sturdy North Launch Party
Additionally for the lovers of electronic music there will be another opportunity to see some of your favorite Infringing performers. Sturdy North is a new creative collective of electronic music producers and DJs including Eppo, JeffRepeater-Shapes of States, Ay Fast, Kaaaatastrophic! DJ Mace and others. The showcase at Hallwalls is being dubbed as the collective's launch party. So if you haven't got enough of your Electronic music fix already for Infringement you'll have another opportunity tonight. Performances by Hallwalls Theatre Sturdy North, Eppo, Ay Fast, and Shapes of States beginning at 7:30 pm. HALLWALLS 341 delaware ave. Buffalo, NY

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 6



Take a deep breath.  We are at the half way point of the 8th annual Buffalo Infringement Festival, and if you want to make it to Sunday's closing ceremonies, then you need a day like today, especially after the blistering and exhausting opening weekend.  With a bit less on the schedule today, choosing where to go, what to see may be a bit easier.  A lack in quantity does not mean a lack in quality though.  Here are my picks for the best bets of Day 6.

Slyboots
Buffalo's best new venue (350 Ellicot) hosts one of Buffalo's most bizarre yet great new bands.  Originally forming in Fredonia, Well Worn Boot look like the family from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre if they picked up some instruments and formed a band.  Alt country meets horror, with costumes thrown in for good measure, Well Worn Boot are one of those bands that need to be seen.  Slyboots Drumming Ensemble and the experimental Jezkova will also play.  Music runs from 8:00pm - 11:00pm.

Bourbon & Coffee
Continuing their infringement marathon run, beat poetry outfit Bourbon & Coffee will offer another performance down at El Museo (91 Allen) early this evening at 7:15pm, led by Aircraft drummer Ian Belknap's spoken word and a pleasing wind section.

Filigrees Tuesday Film Tripout
One of the more unique offerings of the day, fans of Alicia in Wonderland, would be wise to stop by Filigrees (1121 Elmwood Ave) to check director Jordan Bianchi's take on the famous tea party, based on directorTim Burton's vision of the scene.  Other shorts include Dreams, a man's struggle between fantasy and reality, and at work, a look at an artist and his work space.  Films run from 12:30pm - 5:00pm.

Electronic Music Night at the Bend
This has been an especially good infringement  for fans of electronic music and tonight the fest offers another night at the Bend (256 Allen).  Full lineup of acts can be seen here, along with most of their soundcloud pages.  Music starts at 9:00pm and runs to close.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 5


On this Monday morning, I can guaranteeeee, that you should infringe a time or two... or even threeeeee... because Monday evening, oh Monday evening you will surely beeee, listening to music at Mohawk or DBGBeeeeeeees!

We're several days in, now, and already there have been successful performances in abundance around downtown.  What's in store for today?  Read on to find out:

Listen to your inner movie buff and start the day at Filigrees (on the corner of Elmwood and Forest) with their Monday Film Fun event.  Three movies will be screened and the event goes from 12:30-5:30PM.  Red Green Totem, Decency in Kind, and Thin Red Line are the the films to look forward to this afternoon.

Crane Library (Elmwood Avenue) is playing host to a myriad of unique events today and, had I not been scheduled to work today, would probably be my destination of choice (I go out to see music quite a bit... gotta change it up sometimes, oui?).  There will be Celtic Storytelling from 1:00-2:00PM featuring stories of healing and repose shared in the Bardic style and accompanied by the soothing sounds of a Celtic harp.
Take a break, grab a bite to eat, and head right back to Crane Library at 4:00PM for the performance of Incident at Deer Lick, a satirical piece dealing with the three M's (murder, mystery, and marriage, of course).  Franklin LaVoie will be performing as Buffalo's former editor of the Courier Express... Mark Twain.
The final event of the day at Crane Library, "Symphony #3", starts at 7:00PM this evening.  'Tis a puppet show featuring a man and his dog who attmept to rediscover and reconnect with society after living in solitude... in a hand-dug hole underneath a highway billboard.  All set to the music of Aaron Coplands' "Symphony #3".

Nietzsche's will be holding the aptly titled Best Monday Ever today.  The event goes from 6:00-10:00PM and features 30 minute sets from the following bands (in order of appearance): Jamey Kern, Autoverse, Chacko P. Coltrane, Frigid Giant, Lloyd MacHardy, Blue Lazer, and Lazy Ass Destroyer.  Nietzsche's is the de facto epicenter of Infringement Festival and always promises to have killer shows throughout.

My personal pick for music event of the night however is a "choose your own adventure" of sorts... it will be a fairly easy choice for most.  Do you prefer rock music (in the vein of indie/alt)? THEN CHOOSE PATH A!  Tend to lean towards electronic music stylings?  THEN CHOOSE PATH B!

Path A leads you to Mohawk Place from 8:00-11:00PM for sets by various alt and indie rockers Mob From Atlantis, The Merchants, and The Screaming Jeans.

Path B takes you to DBGB's at 10:00PM and keeps you there until question mark PM/AM (who knows?) for Monday Mixdown with Drop D, Nobez, and DJ Soma.  Plus, bonus for those who show up early, DBGB's will be hosting the Monday Funday Open Mic Night from 7:00-10:00PM.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 4






Have you looked at the schedule for today? There are a million things happening probably as you are reading this guide. No I counted, a million, it took me a few hours. If anyone ever tells you nothing happens in this city, you should show them today’s schedule alone and then punch them in the face for being such a naysayer. Take them to the City Hall observation deck where they will surely see all the great stuff going on from their higher vantage point. Then, after you have been arrested for kidnapping and assault, just tell them I said it was ok. It will totally stand up in court.

Magnus Opium’s Philosophy Stand: Stop by next to Nietzsche’s between 3pm and 5pm for some on the spot philosophizing to be dispensed by Magnus Opium. Promising a range spanning metaphysics to deconstruction, Magnus promises readymade food for the soul at a very low price. http://magnusopium.wordpress.com

College Street Block Party: The all day block party on College Street promises food and music. Bring a dish to share, and catch an array of local bands playing each hour between 2 and 7:30pm. Poindexter, Ball Cheese Psychotics, Shubbaluliuma, Logo City, Ramforinkus and Peanut Brittle Satellite are all scheduled to perform,

Do Right Belly Fire, Do Right Monkey Brain, Olivia Sea Turtle, 00OOoo: Promising puppets, giant turtles and ghosts (hey I love all three of those things), this performance begins at 5pm at the Vault (702 Main Street). Performers from Buffalo, Brooklyn, and Baltimore will be telling unique stories in a variety of ways. $0-5 donation suggested benefiting travelling performers.

A Midsummer’s Night Infringement: You are probably going to see the Shakespeare in the Park production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream anyway, why not see it as part of a costumed flash mob. Get in the spirit of the play by dressing up in your best faerie costume and enjoy the free production of Shakespeare’s classic comedy.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 3


Well I am clearly a little late with this writeup. The 2012 Infringement Festival is already kicking my ass. Last night started with the quaint, cordial Love Scenes show at The Vault and quickly devolved into Allentown mayhem with Ronald Raygun performing both of their double booked sets at Nietzsche's and Duke's an hour apart from each other (with a chaotic caravan of musicians and fans hustling equipment across Allen Street so the band could make both shows).  Such is the nature of Buffalo's most frenetic and adventurous festival. Let's see what's in store for today.

buffaBLOG's Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza
This is going on right now (it started at 1), so stop reading this post and get your ass to the Broadway Market! From 1-7, festival goers will be treated to sets from Victory For Poland, Sleepy Haha's, Merchants, The Albrights, Handsome Jack and Trakbenders spinning in between sets.  This was a lot of fun last year, so don't miss your chance to catch it this time.  Bring a chair!

Merge Electronic Circus
Taking place in the parking lot next to Merge, this should be one of the more interesting concerts of the week.  A who's who list of Buffalo electronic artists will be playing from 9pm-1:30am, including Eppo, Bear Skin Rug, Medison, Mario Be, Trakbenders (busy day, guys!) Jeff Repeater, Ay Fast, Drop D and Nobez.  This is a rare chance to enjoy some of Buffalo's finest electronic artists in the great outdoors, so be sure to drop by.

Nietzsche's - Wham Bam Thank You Slam part deux
 Sort of the de facto nucleus of the Infringement Festival, Nietzsche's has a packed lineup tonight once again. Performances by DJ Soma, The Hell's Harlots, Wham Bam Poetry Troupe, The Buffalo Burlesque Collective, MC Vendetta, Lazyrus, Tim Sentman and the Essential Vitamins Crew.  Stop pretending like you're not going to go.


The Best of the Rest
Don't forget to drop into Duke's at 11 to catch Armageddon Party. Also, Slyboots, Broadway Joe's and Filigree's all have good music going on tonight if you're looking for something off the beaten Allentown path.  In the eternal words of 311, my favorite band from high school: "Don't Stay Home!"  (and you thought I couldn't work in a 311 reference)

Today: buffaBLOG's Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza


In just a few hours, we will be throwing our 2nd installment of our Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza as part of the 2012 Buffalo Infringement Festival.  Not to toot our own horn or anything, but you would be hard to find a more unique venue for this year's festival than our rooftop party.  So come spend your afternoon with us, relaxing under the (hopeful) summer sun, listening to some of Buffalo's best local acts.  And if you are hungry, just walk down a couple flights to grab some of the amazing food in the market.

All week we have been introducing or reintroducing all of the acts that will be gracing the stage/roof today.  If you missed any of the artist spotlights, please take a moment to check them out below.

Remember, event is rain or shine.  If the weather does not cooperate with us this afternoon, we will move the party to the 2nd floor of the market.  If you are wondering where to park, you can drive right up to the roof, its huge.  Bring something to sit on unless you find the pavement rather comfortable.  And lastly, bring a few bucks for the artists.  All of them are doing this for free, but if a donation bucket is sent around, toss them a few.  It would be greatly appreciated.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 2



One day in the books, ten to go.  The 8th annual Buffalo Infringement Festival is off and running after a great opening ceremony last night at Nietzsche's.  Yesterday was nothing though.  I mean have you seen today's schedule?  If that is not daunting, then I don't know what is.  With events today beginning at 1:00pm, you could spend 15 straight hours infringing if you wished to.  Here are a few of today's standout events if you need a little help planning your day and night.

Friday Night Vault:  Introspective dance pop duo Love Scenes, after nearly a 7 month hiatus from shows while recording their very excellent sophomore effort Blissed Out Youth, are back playing live.  After opening for Albany indie rockers Alta Mira Wednesday night at Nietzsche's, they play their first infringement show tonight at the Vault.  Joining them are fellow boy/girl duo, the garage rockin Bill Times a Billon, an alumni of both the Bidwell Indie 5000 and our first annual roof top party(speaking of roof top party.....), Radiohead cover band RadioRed, the always fascinating Scantron, and more.  Music runs from 8:00pm - 11:30pm.  Full lineup can be seen here.

Logo City:  To be honest with you, I don't exactly like jam bands.  I was a Phish fan back in high school, but that lasted maybe a year and I never looked back.  I won't use this space bashing the genre though.  Is Logo City a jam band?  Maybe so, but they are different.  Featuring members of Peanut Brittle Satellite and Lazlo Hollyfeld, Logo City has more of funk/jazz groove than that never ending noodling that turned me off years ago.  Plus, they just look cool doing it.  Tonight at Nietzsche's would be a good opportunity to see them as they play what should be an epic, nearly 4 hour set(is that a typo?) beginning at 6:00pm.  And if you miss them tonight, don't fret.  They will be playing the College Street Block Party, one of the highlights of the festival every year, on Sunday July 29th as well.

Friday Night Flicks:  Infringement isn't just about music.  If movies are more up your alley, head over to the Night House at 58 Trinity Place for the evening.  Looking for a scare?  Check out Deep in the Woods, a more Hitchcockian Blair Witch Project influenced film.  The documentary 12 Days of Occupy Buffalo is exactly that.  Anyone who lives and works downtown will have a hard time forgetting the occupiers setting up shop day and night in front of City Hall.  Or if you want something a bit lighter, then the comedy Jangle's Corner, which also screened last year, may be for you.  The film follows four cocaine using friends who accidentally purchase heroin and need to move it quickly.  Because really, what's funnier than heroin? The evening of film begins at 7:00pm with a trailer for this year's Buffalo Infringement Festival.

Pirate Parrrrty:  If that Captain Morgan costume has been doing nothing but gathering dust over the last few years, break it out and save a couple bucks because if you come in pirate gear to Nietzsche's costume party tonight, cover is only $3.  If you don't want to give in to peer pressure and wish to dress in normal street clothes, cover is still only $5 so it's not the end of the world really.  From 10:00pm - 3:00am, music will be provided by the Goonies lovin ska punkers Chester Copperpot (chances that at least one band member dresses as One-Eyed Willy?), schizo sci-fi rockers RONALDRAYGUN, and more.  Nietzsche's costume parties are always a blast so at least find an eye patch or something and head down there.

Zombies:  Have a free half hour?  Want to hang with some zombies without the threat of being eaten?  Head over to the Old Wondermoth (208 North Street) from 5:00pm - 5:30pm to grab some photos with the zombies of Terror Technologies.  While you are at it, bring some clothing, food, and blood for their various charity drives.  Zombies:  so hot right now!

The Drum Machine Report

Waiting for the dust to settle. Ruckus is among us. Chaos marks the start of Infringement and just general loose weirdness. People become delusional under the suffrage of heat and humidity. You're keeping it together, and keeping it real. All is well to bust it out. Dance party for the Infringement Festival that will feature some of Buffalo's talent in the Electronic Music Scene. There will be fun circus performances and likely some fire dancing. Also some unconfirmed rumors of a $15 beer bracelet for the evening, don't know that to be true...Performances on the night from EPPO, BEAR SKIN RUG, AY FAST, NOBEZ, TRAKBENDERS, JEFFREPEATER, DROP D, and MEDISON. Head to the heights on Saturday night for what is sure to be a rager. Frosty Tone wants to take you higher with their Summer blow-out. If you happen to remember what a blast Silkie was, on that hot rain soaked evening last Summer, you might discover this wan to be the party to top it. NOAH D is a truly innovative Dubstep and Drum n Bass Producer/DJ. If you don't want to take my word for it, just listen to his latest album released on SMOG Records entitled Perspective. Check out the second track off of the album "Just Right" featuring The Grouch below as well as SMOG records podcast featuring Noah D.
The album is a fresh interpretation of heavy hypnotic rhythms influenced by all forms of Bass Music. The party will be happening both inside on the stage, which has a new sound-system, and additionally outside on the back patio. This is to provide your face with multiple ways to melt. Other acts on the night include BIG BASHA, DEMI GOD aka JAH MC, THE VERDICT, E-MISSION & TEMPERS ROUGE, LACQUA, POTENT J, DA BUTCHA, NECKBRACE, and RUFUS GIBSON. When chatting with Basha, he let me know that Noah D's been trying to make Buffalo a stop and it hasn't worked out until now. Get ready for some pent up energy to be released.

Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 1


Today kicks off what should be one of the favorite events of any local music fan in Buffalo as the 8th annual Buffalo Infringement Festival begins.  Spanning 11 days and 77 venues over our fair city, we here at buffaBLOG know that with so many options of music, art, dance, and theatre can be quite overwhelming.  So, in order to make your life just a bit easier, each day of the festival, one of our writers will give you his/her opinion on some of the events/shows to check out.  Infringement acts are known to start the day early so lets not waste any time as we dive into Day 1 of of the festival.

Nietzsche's Opening Ceremonies:  Anyone who is familiar with infringement knows that despite the dozens of venues scattered around town, Allen's legendary live music club Nietzsche's is the mother ship/home base to the festival.  Tonight's "Big Kick Off" will feature their annual eclectic lineup.  Whether you are in the mood for hip hop, folk, electronic, slam poetry, and even some good ol' burlesque, Nietzsche's will be the place to be all night beginning at 8:00pm to officially get your infringement blood pumping.

DBGB's Vertigo Night:  Duke's weekly Thursday night showcase has become a staple to any live music fan in the Allen Town area and tonight is no different as blog favorites Early Attic and the newly formed Sturdy North will be taking the stage.  Known for their contemplative post rock grooves, Early Attic will be taking on more of an electronic set tonight to match with the electronic collective of Sturdy North, featuring Jeff Repeater and others.  Music kicks off at 10:00pm

WBNY 91.3 FM:  Just because you can't get down to one of the countless venues today for some kind of infringing (and lets be honest, there should be no excuse), you can still take part in the festivities thanks to our friends over at Buff State's WBNY.  All day and night, the radio station will be featuring various infringement acts, most notably during the 7:00pm - 10:00pm block, where our friend Greg Burt will be hosting the local show and interviewing a handful of infringement artists.  Tune in throughout the day and hopefully one of these acts will get you away from the computer and out to the festival.  Turn your radio dial to 91.3 FM or listen online here.

Guillotine 2 - Election Year:    From 6:30pm - 8:30pm, there will be a guillotine at Days Park.  That is all.

Helpful tip:  Many of the festival shows are free of charge, and more importantly, most if not all of the infringement artists perform for free over the next 11 days.  Make sure to bring a few extra bucks to any shows you may attend throughout the festival and show the acts some love.

buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza Artist Spotlight: The Merchants



The Merchants are one of the best bands you've probably never heard of. They don't have much of an internet presence and in this day and age that's everything. Nevertheless they are a real rust belt gem and I back em. 100%. And that's not just because buffaBLOG's own Steve Gordon is now a member of the band. Oh no! I've been a fan. I HAVE REAL STREET CRED PEOPLE! Anyways, they're playing our party on the Broadway Market rooftop this Saturday (1-7pm AND it's free). Just thought you might like to know.

buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza Artist Spotlight: Sleepy Hahas


Taken directly from the Sleepy Hahas themselves: they "are a no good, wife-stealin', dirt bag rock band from the snowy streets of Buffalo, NY".  Snow is not in the forecast for this Saturday, July 28th when the Sleepy Hahas take the stage at buffaBLOG's Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza, but I think they will oblige us with their bourbon-soaked blues rock, nonetheless. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the interplay between the keys/organ and the guitars (most notably when they break the slides out) it just incredible.  If you like your blues stirred up with a little psychedelia and a lot of ominous subject matter noir, then the Sleepy Hahas are the band for you.  See you on Saturday on the roof!

buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza Artist Spotlight: Victory For Poland



This Saturday marks the second iteration of our Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza. Live music from an eclectic smattering of Buffalo bands and DJ's will be gracing the rooftop all afternoon as part of the Buffalo Infringement Festival. I couldn't make it to last year's Extravaganza, so I'm excited that I get to attend this year. One of the bands I'm most looking forward to catching is Victory For Poland. Mike Moretti turned me onto them a few months back and they are single handedly giving me hope for the future generation of Buffalo bands. Sunny, tight songwriting flanked by tasteful instrumentation, they have a remarkably focused sound for such a young band, which is probably why they've already been tapped to play in venues such as Broadway Joe's, Soundlab and The Town Ballroom. Come down to the Broadway Market this Saturday to see what all the fuss is about, then lament at how horrible your band was at that age in comparison.

buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza Artist Spotlight: TrakBenders


This year for the Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza we got the bright idea to include local DJs in our lineup of live bands. It's worked for our past parties to keep the vibe going while the bands necessarily have to change over. We've got the perfect guys to do just that for what will hopefully be a sun-soaked afternoon of music and fun! TrakBenders are Dave Goldstein and Eric Fiebes, two Buffalo boys with a passion for House music. The two got together in early 2011 to form the duo, and they both have been spinning individually in Buffalo since 2002. They are adaptable when performing to galvanize the emotion of the crowd. They'll keep a good mix going of tunes that will provide the heartbeat for our afternoon, as they will play between each of the bands and then an extended set prior to the last band. Check our Facebook Event Page later this week for the full schedule with time-slots.

Buffalo Infringement Festival needs your donations


The 8th annual Buffalo Infringement Festival is right around the corner.  With the opening ceremonies set for Thursday, July 26th at Nietzsche's, the 11 day festival of music, art, dance, film, and more will be here before we know it.  Despite the countless volunteers, bands, and artists lending their time, talent, and craft to the cause, the festival does not pay for itself.  With a modest goal of $1,000 set in place, the festival is still a bit short, and for the next five days, you can help the organizers reach that goal.  You can donate through their indiegogo page, and like similar kickstarter campaigns, there are perks to giving some cash.  The fundraising campaign closes in the final moments of Sunday, July 15th, so don't kick the tires on this.  If I can't convince you to donate, maybe the video below will.

Just Announced: buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravangaza




Later this month, buffaBLOG will return to the rooftop of the Broadway Market to throw a little party.  In association with the Buffalo Infringement Festival, we will be hosting our 2nd annual buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza on Saturday, July 28th.  This year, we chose some of the best that the Infringement Festival had to offer in local acts the Albrights, Handsome Jack, Merchants, Sleepy Hahas, and Victory for Poland, along with set break DJ sets from TrakBenders.  Music will run from 1:00pm - 7:00pm and is free of charge.  Make sure to join us all day at one of the more unique venues that Infringement has to offer.  Check out a slightly shaky video (sorry!) below of a performance from Sea Snake Vs. at last year's party.

Tonight: Dukefringement

It's that time of year again to start raising money for one of Buffalo's best summer events. Every year this ten day event showcases the best of what Buffalo has to offer in every aspect of the word art. Tonight at DBGB's starting at 10pm is an "Electronic music fundraiser for the Buffalo Infringement Festival featuring visuals by VJ Deleria and audios by Soma, Armageddon Party, Ay Fast, Epprepeater, Bace;Face, and Medison."  This is a 21+ event and cover is pay what your can, so any amount is appreciated!
