The Drum Machine Report

The music never stopped. It never will. No matter what humanity will face, music is an essential part of our being. People will carry on their musical traditions into the next age, regardless of medium. Without computers and xlr cable, dance lovers will have to get down with jaw-harps and jug bands, but as long as there is electricity we will continue to light up the night with flashy melodies and big time basslines. Let whatever future hold on to the heart driving rhythms of composed electronic music.

Music in 2012 returned to a raw emotional state. Lyrically and musically this year has been about making less, more. Personally I am enamoured with "best-of" lists because it makes one appreciate that quintessentially, music is about diversity, and to experience everyone's diverse opinions and ratings is fascinating!

This weekend in Buffalo there are several danceparties going on that are worth checking out:

friday12/14

Bad Boy Bill is one of the most well known names in Dance/Electonica music, partly because he co-founded Beatport, but more importantly because he has been one of the most influential DJ/Producers after the rave generation. Tomorrow night get ready for an amazing Electro-House dance extravaganza that is sure to make you scream. You won't want to miss it when he takes the stage tomorrow night. Local support from ANGELO PETRUCCI, NIK STYLEZ, SUNGLASSES MIKE, and BELOVED.

The Drum Machine Report

While the pragmatists are busy debunking the Mayan prophecy and rumors of the world ending in 15 days, NASA rover Curiosity is busy discovering organic molecules on Mars and controverting their findings as proof of life. My world already ended several months ago when the NHL and NHLPA decided to strangle the life out of fans of Ice Hockey. At the very least NASA could tell us about what they're really finding in those canyons-a Martian nightclub! No way!

Alas the world will not end on that fated approaching day, but that's not to say the world-as-we-know-it won't.

In the mean time we can anticipate and enjoy what's to come with what is really important in life, music!

friday 12/7
9p-4a
$20-25/18+
DINGEN'S BAR AND GRILL
601 dingens st. Buffalo, NY
It's goin' down at Dingen's on Friday night as Frosty Tone presents CALYX & TEBEE. These two DNB producers have been dubbed game changers and have recently been the subject of praise for their recent LP release All or Nothing which debuted last month in the US. Check out the Soundcloud widget from the RAM Records page to stream the tracks below. An advantage to all, the party tomorrow will have two rooms and feature many local and regional DJs. Most importantly the sound in the main room will be top-notch and deep. If you choose not to make the trek out to the edges of Cheektowaga, you may regret what promises to be a gnarly party.

11p-3a
21+
SAMPLE
242 allen st. Buffalo, NY
If DNB isn't your bag, and you're in the Allentown area hit up Sample for some Culture! Art and Music are in synergy at this party. This month's artists feature Scott Southerland (Photo) and The Artists of Starlight Studios (Curated by Parrish Gibbons). Music from GENE LINET, GREG HOWZE, ACTIVE8, and THE TRAKBENDERS.

The Drum Machine Report

Once more unto the breach dear friends! A new month and a new outlook for what may be in Buffalo before the years end. We're reaching the climax of 2012 and shit is getting crazy. Sandy is/was not just a super storm, it is completely unprecedented in magnitude! Centuries go by without a storm like this. Its becoming harder not to listen to the quacks talking about weather modification and project stormfury. At least we know America will come together in a crisis by BOOing the realists like this poor brah who just wanted to tell Rombrah about global climate change:

When will those hippies learn that a USA chant trumps anything!? Even if humanity is breaching Mother Earth's slit and is about to get bitch slapped even further...I'm gonna live everyday gratefully and enjoy each breath I have been granted. Along the way let's enjoy ourselves in the gifts of the gods such as music and libations, accessible again this weekend in our fair city.

saturday 11/3

10p-4a
$15/18+
DINGEN'S BAR AND GRILL
601 dingens st. Buffalo, NY
NuSkool Pirates throws down another three room party at Dingen's this Saturday night. The line up is chock full of Buffalo and Rochester DJs geared up to help you lose your mind and dance the night away. Sets by HOOGS, BIG BASHA, and PAUL KUENZI will highlight this high octane affair. Make sure to check out the visuals as well provided by VJ Deliria. Her projections this year have been top-notch artistry. It's important to appreciate the details, even at the rave party. One set I'll be looking forward to will be SITA! Check out his most recent Electro House mix below.

Like I said, get it while its good, life that is, we're still a long ways off reverting to survival mode. I hope. Much Love!

The Drum Machine Report

*Ding Ding* Sounds the bell for another round of fun times this weekend here in the fair Queen City. The annual Music is Art Festival is on Saturday. This celebration of local music is a cornerstone event for showcasing some of Buffalo's best bred talent. Despite opinions of the event's organizational shortcomings, the music, in earnest, is the focal point of the festival. Music is Art reminds us of the artistic creativity that goes into the making and presenting of live music. There are plenty of acts that fall into the realm of Electronic and Dance, so definitely go and check out some of the acts that have worked incredibly hard for your entertainment.

Plenty of other shindigs are available this weekend for filling the desire to dance and party. Here are some of the highlights.

334 delaware ave. Buffalo, NY
After Music is Art prepare to dance the night away at Sinful nightclub. Off the beaten path Sinful is kind of a welcome change if you're looking to get down at the club. Though every event there has to have loaded-in sound, the spaciousness and the newness of the place is a definitive advantage. This edition of EVOLve will feature RYLL and BOOTS BOOGIE coming down from Tdot along with PETER PIZZUTELLI, DAHA GREEN, and GREG HOWZE. Get ready to get wavy as this party will go late into the night and the beats will last all the way 'til the end.

Waiting for the dust to settle. Ruckus is among us. Chaos marks the start of Infringement and just general loose weirdness. People become delusional under the suffrage of heat and humidity. You're keeping it together, and keeping it real. All is well to bust it out. Check out this weekends notable parties and events that will get your feet moving, ass grooving, and your brain as confused and melty as a drippy ice-cream cone.

frosty tone presents:
10p-4a
$12/18+ $7/21+
BROADWAY JOE'S
3051 main st. Buffalo, NY
Head to the heights on Saturday night for what is sure to be a rager. Frosty Tone wants to take you higher with their Summer blow-out. If you happen to remember what a blast Silkie was, on that hot rain soaked evening last Summer, you might discover this wan to be the party to top it. NOAH D is a truly innovative Dubstep and Drum n Bass Producer/DJ. If you don't want to take my word for it, just listen to his latest album released on SMOG Records entitled Perspective. Check out the second track off of the album "Just Right" featuring The Grouch below as well as SMOG records podcast featuring Noah D.
The album is a fresh interpretation of heavy hypnotic rhythms influenced by all forms of Bass Music. The party will be happening both inside on the stage, which has a new sound-system, and additionally outside on the back patio. This is to provide your face with multiple ways to melt. Other acts on the night include BIG BASHA, DEMI GOD aka JAH MC, THE VERDICT, E-MISSION & TEMPERS ROUGE, LACQUA, POTENT J, DA BUTCHA, NECKBRACE, and RUFUS GIBSON. But be sure to check out the Facebook event page HERE for a schedule of who's playing where and when. When chatting with Basha, he let me know that Noah D's been trying to make Buffalo a stop and it hasn't worked out until now. Get ready for some pent up energy to be released.

And when that dust settles, buffaBLOG will still be there for your, entertainment, information, and masturbation. Much Love.

Tonight: The Great American Smokeout

Boasting itself as Buffalo's biggest 4/20 party, The Great American Smokeout will take place tomorrow at Broadway Joe's beginning at 4pm in the afternoon. The event will be an all-day affair featuring the talents of many local bands. The most notables of the big lineup are local hip-hop fusion group Type Relevant, and indie funk jamband Whiskey Reverb. Big Basha is the only DJ on the bill, scheduled to close-off the long night. There will be food -and- BBQ (hence the "smokeout" monicker), even the fire spinning troupe Funkafire (likely in the backyard). Still not quite sure why bars throw parties for 4/20; not like you'd be allowed to medicate inside. It's more about meeting up with friends, checking out some local stoner rock, and enjoying some munchies and beers. Check out the sounds of Whiskey Reverb below. The party is in the heights at Broadway Joe's 3051 Main St. Buffalo, NY. 4p-4a $5/21+ $3/18+

The Drum Machine Report

It’s true. It’s now the “Holiday Season.” Chanukah is happening. 9 lbs 8 oz baby Jesus is a coming. Santa’s getting his pre-game on. And Baby New Year is getting rowdy in the womb! What are you doing? Of course, spending time with your family. That’s my reason for the season. Take advantage of the opportunity to share love with family and friends. The effect of gratitude is a message best sent at the end of the year. This time of year is also best for partying with the with the ones you love. I mean come on, Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
This weekend there are many Christmas celebrations where you can hear and see Dance music. But to highlight a few, here’s this weeks Drum Machine Report...
thursday 12/22

10p-4a
$5-7/21+
DBGB’S
233 allen st. Buffalo, NY
Live Exposure Holiday special presented by Frosty Tone along with MNM presents. Featuring THE MANHATTAN PROJECT. This Live Electronic duo from Rochester was part of Conspirator's regional tour this year including a packed show in Buffalo. They released the EP Atomic Bomb Party Vol.2 back in April, and can be checked out on their SoundCloud page. I would describe them as a jamtronica outfit; their strength being high energy performances. Also slated to play are ARMAGEDDON PARTY who I know nothing about, and BIG BASHA spinning after the bands to close.
friday 12/23

12-4
$10/18+ Free*/21+
PURE
75 w. chippewa st. Buffalo, NY
Slow Roast Records DJ/Producer CRAZE will be at Pure for a late night session on Friday night thanks to Factory Nightlife. And if you are over 21 and one of the first 200 peeps to join the event page on Facebook your name will be added to the guest list FREE. Craze is cray. I’ve seen him a few times and each show was a fantastic party. He’s one of those cats who brings the heat every time behind the decks. His experience and scratching abilities have taken him this far. One of my favorite DJs, you can hear him on the Slow Roast Hogcast deliver fresh material alongside Kill the Noise and others. BIACCO opens! Head down and enjoy four hours of club fun, a quickie.
saturday 12/24

10p-4a
21+
DBGB’S
253 allen st. Buffalo, NY
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Well except over at Duke’s where mucho Christmas cheer will be stirring. DJs MIOSI, TEE PEE, TRAKBENDERS, and PROJEX will keep the Yule Log flaming hot. The only downside is theres no fireplace for Santa to come down, at least I don’t think there is.
sunday 12/25
10p-345a
$10/21+
PEARL ST. GRILL & BREWERY
76 pearl st. Buffalo, NY
What more could I say about THE CHRISTMAS PARTY that hasn’t been said already or that you don’t already know. Let’s begin with the fact that it’s been the best annual party in Buffalo for the past several years. Compound that with the genuine heartfelt joy that all of the attendees and performers exude for each other. It sounds sappy but, the culmination of the years’ work and relationships kind of comes to a head on Christmas Day and into New Years Day. A time of joy can also mean for some a time of great reflection and sadness. But the positive force of THE CHRISTMAS PARTY can be a launchpad to greatness and good fortune into the next year. Their slogan has been “When you're done visiting your family for the day, come spend time with your "other family", we'll be here.” Ain’t that the truth. For further information and tickets check out MNM Presents.
I’ll see y’all at The Christmas Party. Don’t forget that the Wu is the next day. Pretty much means Boxing Day will be spent in bed until showtime, sorry Canada. Much Love.
