storm, it is completely unprecedented in magnitude! Centuries go by

This stop in Buffalo is the first of 6 performances in the United States, so this is a rare opportunity to see such a world renowned artist! Check out the latest edition of his extremely popular radio show “Global,” in preparation for his brief stint in the States.

Not really a “rave” as I described previously, but probably the closest thing you’ll find to a classic “old-school” party. The idea of having different styles of dance music in different rooms is an appreciated device that somewhere got cut out of most of tomorrow’s parties. Meaning that it used to be so cool to pick the vibe you wanted to feel when floating from room-to-room at the party. Frankly, when floating you might want something a little lighter than the Hardstyle. We’ll here you go, NuSkool Pirates is throwing another one, at Dingen’s Bar & Grill on the Buffalo/Cheektowaga border. This one promises to be bigger and better than the last one over there, which was a pretty damn good time. The atmosphere is relaxed and the vibe makes sense. Go hard, and go old school. Always one of THE most fun nights on Allen st. the Queen City Cartel’s monthly Friction party is this Saturday at Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar. Ahem. Going with the flow of the Allentown Art Festival, this party will pop of during the peak hours of the night. This month’s installment includes a fine mixing of artists including POTENT J, SUNGLASSES MIKE vs. OWSKI, DERF, and MEDISON.
The pulse of the Buffalo music scene is palpitating at present. Schools are finishing up their semesters, and Summer concert season is rapidly approaching. That means many middle aged deuchebags in golf knits will be ignoring whatever washed-up acts Buffalo Place gets for their concert series as they sip Blues and flirt with their interns in the sunshine. That also means the recycling of the college aged crowd. Good riddance downstate haters. And welcome home Buffalo natives with a new outside perspective on life. Bollocks! How is any of this significant to the the Buffalo Music scene erupting? Well it's not, if you live in Buffalo, like cool music, and have a grasp of what's currently going on here. For those in the know this has already been a years worth of amazing shows, national tours and local shows. And the "Summer concert season" will have even more to offer the cool kids of the city. It's starts off with truck of airhorns exploding on Memorial Day weekend; a legend, a block party, and a boat party in consecutive days that weekend to heat things up for the unofficial start of Buffalo Summer. Based out of Rochester, he has been playing the occasional show in Buffalo for many many years. I was fortunate enough to check him out at the Wastelands back in the November of last year, and I am excited to see him in a more active environment at DBGB's where there will be a bigger crowd and people will be more ready to dance their asses off on a Saturday night. Kicking things off will be PAPI CHULO of RipRoc (Rochester) and MARIO BEE. I overheard a set of Papi Chulo's last week and I have to say, the guy is an incredible DJ. He integrates so much unexpected music into his set and it always works with his thematic flow. After those two, BERETTA, NECKBRACE, and LOKI will bust out the DnB and Dubstep. Happy Trails.

ABOVE & BEYOND is a Trance music group based out of the UK who are renowned for their production of progressive and catholic trance. In the same ilk as Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, if you like trance then you get the idea. Presented by Factory Nightlife, it will be interesting to see and hear this type of Trance/House music in this space. I can’t recall anything similar to this in the Ballroom before. Should be a pretty unique event. Trance people are an a league of their own, but each time A&B has played here it’s been received extremely well.

I’ve been looking forward to this particular show for several months. Mostly because all three artists on the bill are doing some of the coolest and freshest work in the world right now. CHRISSY MURDERBOT, aside from being super swaggy is producing some of the Juke sounds coming out of Chicago right now. Also from Chicago, THE HOOD INTERNET are the best Mash-up artists on the planet (better than GirlTalk right now). And Star Slinger continues to deal out remixes and original tracks that are strait fire. It may be on a Sunday night, but THIS IS NOT A SHOW TO FORGET ABOUT. These three acts are extremely relevant to what is cool and hip in this country right now! I highly recommend it.

Buds are popping this weekend as Spring fever is gripping Buffalo. There are numerous stoner philosophies on the origins of 420, such as law enforcement call codes, Hitler’s birthday, or the day that Jerry Garcia first contacted aliens. It’s actually none of that bullshit. But the date April 20th has turned into a counter culture quasi-holiday. To the regular potsmokers of the world, it just ends up being a day where they accidentally smoke at 4:20 pm. And needless to say it becomes a pretty good excuse to throw parties, if you can get out of the beanbag chair and/or food coma.
It should be noted that the Queen City Cartel’s monthly FRICTION party was particularly good last Saturday. The vibe of Frictions past returned. The dancefloor was crowded with people enjoying themselves and the music. This was exemplified most during RY DIGGS’ set! Props to him for a well thought-out and more importantly well executed set of sexy and hip electro-house that transported me to the Parisian hipster nightclub of my dreams! The whole atmosphere in there was absolutely positive on Saturday. Thank you.
Similarly to a growing plant, the city is coming alive with the seasonal changes. And with the “holiday” being this weekend, there are some pretty cool danceparties and shows for you to attend! Check some out yo.

Known as TOKiMONSTA and signed to Brainfeeder Records, she has been making eloquent and interesting music for a long time. TOKi brings a certain coolness to her live performance that exudes an air of certainty towards her own music which she is presenting to the audience. Sometimes its arty and sometimes its party. This party kind of popped up on short notice, but Toats Orig has put together what looks to be a dandy way to celebrate 4/20. A fairly obvious message with the title, and more so with the poster pic. LOL! I’m still pretty certain that the day doesn't give anybody the the free reign to toke in a bar/venue at any and all of the 420 parties here in Buffalo. Although I did see someone with a portable vaporizer in last Friday night in a bar that shall go un-named! Just sayin, they DO make blunt cases. On the bill is a super-fresh lineup. The veteran DJ UNIVERSAL, of WBNY infamy will headline. I have been listening to this guy teach me about Reggae and Dancehall on most Sundays for the past 8-10 years over the airwaves of 91.3. Steppin out sound. Incredible depth of Reggae, Dancehall, and Tropical music. STUNTMAN will also play. So hot right now, Stuntman. BONES, trappin’ up the building. And MIOSI charging up the party with the Moobahton etc. Totally Original.
Cool and sexy house music is the plan as always for the Igloo crew as they bring in Toronto house DJ PAUL REVERED. Check out his sound below. Also on the bill are PAUL KUENZI, BRANDON CHASE, BOBBY ODDO, and GENE LINET. I’m hoping for last Saturday’s vibe to kind of carry over. It is past high time to climb off of dubstep’s dick and let some other dance music penetrate your ears. How bout some house?

Last week’s Drum Machine report was basically a rant about the worth of experience and performance energy. To the enjoyment of a refined crowd at Soundlab on Saturday night, Blockhead displayed these characteristics in professional fashion. His performance was not flashy. He used no elaborate equipment spare an audio interface and laptop. This was a make-up show. Of course there was less hype. Blockhead could have mailed it in. He did not. The performance was a well executed set or his own songs mixed with recognizable Hip-Hop bass lines pulling in every direction. Even the encore was cool despite it being three separate songs; the crowd got to vote between a NEW song, a MELODIC song, or a CRAZY song. Needless to say, he played all three.
In other news, the buzzworthy FIELD DAY 2012 the all-day Allen st. takeover that has been in the works from the QCC for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend has been officially announced. And boy oh boy am I excited, because, on a personal note, my one of absolute favorite DJ/Producers in the whole world is headlining the event! MUNCHI. The other choice headliners include other Moombahton stars David Heartbreak and Jon Kwest. Brooklyn favorite Cobra Krames, and Sines from Texas. You should check out Sines right now, some serious trap beats! The event will be an all day ting featuring an enormous lineup of local and regional talent.
Also that weekend and just announced yesterday, Alexi Delano will headline CAPSIZED! BOAT CRUISE 2012 v.1 from MNM presents.

Apparently his nickname is the robot, though I’ve never heard him called that and I am plenty “in” Disco Biscuits circles. He is certainly a sight to see, having seen him play as DrFameus several times I would highly recommend checking out this surefire energetic performance.
