Buffalo Infringement Festival: Day 11

Welp, today is Day Eleven, which means: another Buffalo Infringement Festival has (just about) come and gone. Almost a thousand live performances, readings, and art/film showings in eleven days? If you didn't immerse yourself in it, or at least go to check out a friend's band in some random corner of the city at some random time on some random day in the last week or so, then you really missed out. We've watched the volunteer organizers' heads nearly explode, spectacularly, and seen some unexpected excellent performances. But the real hero this week is my liver (sorry, little buddy).

To show your thanks to all the folks who put this together, and check out some fine, fine, infringey bands, head to Nietzsche's for the closing ceremonies (featuring Erin Sydney Welsh, PROJEX, Cavalcade, Axis of Evil, and Zongo Junction) tonight from 8PM til Nietzsche's-O-Clock. Otherwise, there's still a plethora of other going-ons going down today. Some suggestions?

DEATH DISNEY
Social commentary in the form of street art from one of the Toats Orig dudes. If you haven't already checked it out, make your way down to The Vault (702 Main St)...

The Haunted Buffalo
The solo music by Eric Charles T is described on the Infringement site as “acoustic horror... a mix of horror, camp, and coffee, peppered with occasional punk rock & country western covers.” Let this 4PM performance be your reason to check out the recently expanded Allentown Music (1113 Elmwood).

Three Bands at Tudor Lounge
If you missed alt-pop group Victory For Poland at our rooftop party last week, then make it a point to check them out at Tudor Lounge (335 Franklin) tonight. We liked them so much, I think we hired one of them (?). They'll be sharing the stage with the spacey Suffolk & Rain, along with indie-rockers Sea Snake Vs. - who played our rooftop show last year, and have hands down the best description in the Official Infringement Guide - look it up. Music starts at 8PM.

OK, that's just a couple suggestions. I know there's probably some great zombie/gay vampire/medieval TV show on HBO or AMC that you don't want to miss, but you should really get outside and check out the Festival. It's pretty cool and it's made out of Real Life.

Tonight: Sea Snake Vs, The Tins, Bryan Johnson & Family, and Mr Boneless

Get ready for summer and the buffaBLOG Beach Party (in 8 days!) tonight at The Mohawk when Sea Snake Vs headlines a dynamite line-up of local bands including The Tins (who'll be playing the aforementioned Beach Party), Bryan Johnson and Family, and Mr. Boneless. I almost referred to Sea Snake Vs as "buffaBLOG favorites," but in fairness that actually applies to pretty much everybody on the bill, and tonight you get it all. You want some darkness? Sea Snake Vs and Mr. Boneless have you covered. Bryan Johnson and Family will bring the sun, and The Tins have the powered up garage rock covered. Doors at 9 PM, the cover is unknown but most likely reasonable, and you should be there.

Tonight: Sea Snake Vs., Veda Rays, Pink Tiger

Some bands have an extensive web presence – tracks on Soundcloud, a couple albums on Bandcamp, Purevolume player, Facebook page, and even an old Myspace profile floating around from their past. Then other bands remain shrouded in mystery, letting their live performances speak for themselves. Sea Snake Vs. falls in with the latter. We've caught some amazing shows from these guys, including sets at Steak & Cake's Holiday Party and our own Rooftop Extravaganza during last year's Infringement Fest, but it's hard to figure out what they're up to outside of the rumor mill. All we can really say about these guys is, “they sound like the National mixed with My Morning Jacket with Dan Auerbach on vocals,” and “they have five members now,” and “they are playing at Nietzche's tonight (248 Allen St., 8pm, $5?).” Sea Snake Vs. going to share the stage with Brooklyn's Veda Rays (fittingly self-described as “post-indie art rock”), and Buffalo's Pink Tiger (glam-punk-rock'n'roll). It's a well rounded bill with something for everyone in the family, and you don't want to miss it.

Tonight: Sea Snake Vs.

If you were new to Buffalo and trying to find out about the local, independent music scene tonight's show at Mohawk Place would be a good place to start. Representing a variety of sounds and styles all four of these bands demonstrate what makes Buffalo's scene so great; diversity, and lots of it. Headlining the bill is Sea Snake Vs., a rock trio turned quintet of the darker variety, along with Buffablog's favorite beach rockers Bryan Johnson and the Family, the (aptly) hyped Screaming Jeans, and self described "organica" artists Scantron. T.G.I.F. It's Friday, I'm in love. Use any slogan you want. Just make it to Mohawk tonight. Shows at 9.

Tonight: Sea Snake Vs.

There is a very mysterious show at the Vault tonight.... but sometimes those are the best ones. There really isn't a lot of information about the show or the bands playing.  Here is what I know: the bands playing are Wind-Up Bird, Cattle Drums, Nelsonvillians and local band Sea Snake vs. (You might remember Sea Snake vs. from our Infringement Rooftop Party and we finally get another opportunity to see them play again tonight.)  As far as the other bands, I put up some of there music on this post so you can get a nice preview but I don't know much about them.  The show starts at 8 pm, $5 cover.  Sounds like a lovely Sunday evening to me! See you there!

Videos: buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza

While being a pesky threat all morning, the scare of rain on Saturday was just that, and the buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza went off without a drop of rain in sight.  From 12:00-5:00pm, we played host to five of our favorite acts on the Infringment Festival Lineup.  Between the ska sounds of The Blood Thirsty Vegans to one of Buffalo's last performances of the pysch pop act the birD day and everything in between, the Rooftop was a great success if we don't say so ourselves.  Below find videos from each act that played the party.  Apologies to the sometimes shaky camera work.  A pesky bee, which makes it's own appearance from time to time, seemed to be attracted the camera all afternoon, making filming a challenge, but not an impossibity.  Enjoy.

Today: The buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza

The day is finally here. After night after night of seeing some of Buffalo's best live bands during this year's Infringement Festival, it's time for a little afternoon party. Despite today's threat of rain, the buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza is flexible, and at a moments notice, can become the buffaBLOG Broadway Market 2nd Floor Garage Extravaganza if need be. So don't let a few (potential)drops scare you off. This party is happening no matter what.

Anyways, we have been previewing the Rooftop Extravaganza lineup which includes the ska/funk/hip hop blended Blood Thirsty Vegans, the synth grunge exploits Ronaldraygun!, the uber mysterious trio Sea Snake Vs., boy/girl garage pop duo Bill Times A Billion and Buffalo's favorite pysch pop ensemble the birD day all week in order to get you in the mood for what should be one of the highlights of this year's great festival. While admission is free, make sure you bring some cash with you for band donations. All of the bands on our lineup today have volunteered their services not only to us, but to the entire Infringement Festival, so it's best not to let them go home empty handed. buffaBLOG's ultra-exclusive blue and green buttons make their triumphant return so those who could not get their hands on one are our birthday party in March can now rest easy as we brought in a new shipment just for today. Also, all of the bands and workers at today's party tend to get hungry, so if you feel like whipping up a nice dish or two, it will not go uneaten.

Today's buffaBLOG Broadway Market Rooftop Extravaganza runs from 12:00 - 5:00pm. See you there.
