buffaBLOG 4th Birthday Party Artist Spotlight: Mr. Boneless

Well, how about Mr. Boneless kicking off buffaBLOG’s 4th birthday party? No time to sit down, order a light beer and settle down; nope, they are going to get things started with a bang. Their music, thankfully, has much more depth than the bio offered on the band’s Facebook page: Elliott met Nate who met Joe whom all met Brian in the summer of 2010. Sure, Brian sounds like a lucky son of a bitch, but surely there is more to their story than what they are telling us.

To find out more, check them out Saturday night at buffaBLOG’s party (and keep an eye out for a new Boneless album this summer). So far, they’ve filled a void left by Merchants’ semi-uncertain future, in that I listen to them and want to become more of a man. When Elliot sings, he uses every bit of throat that he’s got; picture, if you will, a dog getting a bone lodged in its throat and using every ounce of energy he’s got to dislodge it. That’s a pun within an analogy for you; my work here is done.

Check them out Saturday at Duke’s. They’re batting leadoff and will go on right at 10:30. Tickets are $5.

Local Booking/Promoting Agency, Bumrush Booking, Launches

A new, local booking and promotion agency recently launched this past weekend called Bumrush Booking, founded and operated by Matt Wisniewski (you may also know him as Well Worn Boot's Plainsman). The agency's first three clients, Aircraft, Mr. Boneless, and the Boot, should be household names to the area by now, or if you read this blog on a regular basis. Bumrush will also specialize in live video clips of agency artists. You can watch footage of Aircraft performing "Wilt" live a Mammoth Recording Studios, filmed by Bumrush collaborator Pat DePuy, below. For more information on Bumrush Booking, you may visit their website here.

Tonight: Sea Snake Vs, The Tins, Bryan Johnson & Family, and Mr Boneless

Get ready for summer and the buffaBLOG Beach Party (in 8 days!) tonight at The Mohawk when Sea Snake Vs headlines a dynamite line-up of local bands including The Tins (who'll be playing the aforementioned Beach Party), Bryan Johnson and Family, and Mr. Boneless. I almost referred to Sea Snake Vs as "buffaBLOG favorites," but in fairness that actually applies to pretty much everybody on the bill, and tonight you get it all. You want some darkness? Sea Snake Vs and Mr. Boneless have you covered. Bryan Johnson and Family will bring the sun, and The Tins have the powered up garage rock covered. Doors at 9 PM, the cover is unknown but most likely reasonable, and you should be there.

Tonight: Mr. Boneless

Mr. Boneless has a sound that's pretty hard to describe. Imagine Tom Waits singing for a discordant indie rock outfit stuffed with Murder City Devils melodies...at least that's what I heard on their "Murder Song". Then I listened to "Vetis" and my opinion changed right away to some kind of beautiful alt. country persuasion. Two points about this. 1. I am absolutely terrible at describing bands. 2. You should make your own decisions and that starts with checking out Mr. Boneless tonight at the Vault. They're playing with Sleep Close Death and Buffablog faves Wooden Waves, so you wouldn't want to miss it. Shows at 9.

Tonight: Artvoice's BOOM

That's Battle of Original Music of course.  Tonight at Nietzsche's, four of Buffalo's best local bands will compete for a spot in the grand finale of Artvoice's very own annual battle of the bands contest.  The grand finale will take place on April 20th, with the winner walking away $5000.  But lets worry about tonight first.  Competing tonight are buffaBLOG fav the Tins, a indie rock trio who are prepping their full length debut album, which is set to drop next month, and Mr. Boneless a four piece blue/garage rock group originally out of Fredonia whose members all coincidentally share the same last name of Boneless ala the Ramones and Los Campesinos!.  Each act will be given 30 minutes to impress the judges.  Also competeing tonight are hard rocking, arena ready Contagious Woo and atmospheric metal sounds of Third Realm.  The music kicks off tonight with Contagious Woo at 10:30.  Cover is $5.

Tonight: Well Worn Boot, Mr. Boneless, and Too Tigers

Tonight, Slyboots (350 Ellitcott St. ) will be hosting two bands hailing from Fredonia, NY, Mr. Boneless and Well Worn Boot, as well as Brooklyn based electronic duo Too Tiger.  Well Worn Boot is a psychedelically goofball outfit, think Jethro Tull with 80s hair metal vocals, that have been playing the Fredonia circuit for just over a year. The band seems almost too grandiose of a project for the small college town. After scouring dozens of youtube videos searching for the right words to describe the band, I came across a motif. Well Worn Boot dress like this...

Every show.

Mr. Boneless is an alt-country quartet, which remind me almost as if Fleet Foxes merged with a scuzzed out Tom Waits on a Man Man tour.   Let your hair down tonight and paint the town red. Check out semi-locals Well Worn Boot and Mr. Boneless, accompanied by NYC’s Too Tiger tonight at 9pm at Slyboots.
