Interview: Jason Hann from EOTO

EOTO is a live electronic duo consisting of members of the String Cheese Incident. Last Saturday, they played in Niagara Falls at the Rapids Theatre and we got lucky enough to sneak in an interview after the show, check it out:

Tonight: EOTO

EOTO will be playing tonight in Niagara Falls at the Rapids Theatre. The psychedelic electronic duo is known for their kinetic live performances, a sonic treat which doubles as a visual feast - LED lights, a lotus flower stage, projectors,  live drums, guitar, and keys, and no back up tracks, as member Jason Hann calls it, "organized chaos."  Summer music festival energy in the middle of winter. Tickets are $25 and doors open at 8. See ya there.

The Drum Machine Report

It hasn’t even begun to decompose. Why the expression of fear? Scratches off of the surface reveal a new era of Buffalo, an artistic awakening of the sophisticated youth. The fear of change is the fear of man. We are who we thought we were. The creative arts being conceived here and being brought here is of the utmost quality at present. Specifically the music presented onstage from local and national artists is accessible for all types of people.
Tonight we have EOTO, the Jam-Electronic duo of  Michael Travis (String Cheese Incident) and Jason Hann playing live at the Town Ballroom. You should still be able to get tickets at the door. But I’m thinking this show is going to be really cool because of their stage/lighting set up. They are performing inside a giant lotus flower made of projection screens that VJ Zebbler has conceived in design. Hence the tour being dubbed “The Lotus Experience.” Ooh, Ah. Check out the pretty lights. No. In all seriousness this is a conceptual design treasure. The video below should give you a good idea of what to expect.

Tonight: EOTO

EOTO, just another band on the long list of acts that just love coming back to Buffalo over and over again(not complaining). EOTO, the brainchild of Jason Hann and Michael Travis (percussionist and drummer from the band The String Cheese Incident,) bring their improv stylings of Breakbeat/ House/ Drum n Bass/ Trip Hop/Dubstep to The Town Ballroom. These boys have come a long way since their jammy bluegrass days in The String Cheese Incident. This tour is dubbed the "Bass Invaders," but the real treat is "The Lotus Experience" that will be accompanying them on this tour. Designed by award winning VJ, Zebbler, fans will be treated to an incredible stage show. Consisting of a three-dimensional lotus flower, surrounded by enchanting HD video and endless lighting options similar to the stage setup for Shpongletron, also designed by Zebbler.  Kraddy, will be kicking things off tonight with doors at 8pm, tickets are $15 in advance and just a bit more at the door.

The Drum Machine Report

Rolling in the deep are Buffalo’s talented artists. This weekend is studded with events and parties that will stage their talents, and offer you the opportunity to get out and spend some quality party time with friends. Use buffaBLOG and this week’s Drum Machine Report to help map out the itinerary and you cannot go wrong.

It’s hard to believe that a whole year has gone by since the first ever Prom of the Dead (fundraiser for Torn Space Theater) held at the Dnipro Ukrainian Home. Last October this event was the talk of the town, and word is heavy on the street that it’s gonna pop off again this year on Saturday night. The DJs this year will delve a lille bit more into the modern realm. They’ve added PROJEX and DJ LOPRO into the mix of art, rock, and zombie themed weirdness. The idea was to add a little oomph to the dancefloor areas of this already raucous party and play some more of the things we may have heard at our proms, rather than our parents’ proms. This event promises to be one of the funnest parties of the year! So go. I’ll be emceeing the night, and if you want a massive double high-five, I’ll be happy to oblige.

TOWN BALLROOM

681 main st. Buffalo, NY

So if it wasn’t for the Disco Biscuits, I would have never gotten into Electronic and Dance music years ago. I may still be listening to some noodle-y String Cheese! Bleh. J/K. Sorry I had to joke while making that point, because the evolution of music is just what Michael Travis and Jason Hann are trying to push with EOTO. Combining the fun party elements of a DJ set with live instrumentation. And their success can be measured by selling-out shows and getting great reviews from performances all over. It also helps that they are genuinely nice guys. Check them out at the Town Ballroom with Buffalo DJ, BIG BASHA, who needs little intro. If you know, you know, BIG BASHA’s sets are fire.

I’m really really excited for this. Last year I attended Roctoberfest at the 464 Gallery and boy oh boy was it cool. This year’s edition, called MONSTER will be an expansion on that idea. A collaborative mixed media event with art, music, and video installations. Three exploratory floors of fun and oddities with music and art in a spooky state of congruency.
