Tonight: Jimkata

Jimkata's music comes in on a groove-heavy surge with steadfast bass and a hint of insanity. After playing for festivals such as Gathering of the Vibes, Summer Camp, and Catskill Chill, they've made their mark throughout the festival and jam circuit. In the fall of 2012, fans united to launch their latest album Die Digital that is an easygoing blend of electronic, jam, and rock that is both pleasant and freeing. Joining Jimkata in their festivities this evening is Lazlo Hollyfeld, a thoroughly enjoyable and laid-back solo artist from Buffalo. Nietzsche's is the place, 9 p.m. is the time. Dance on, folks.

Tonight: Jimkata

Jimkata will be stopping at Nietzches in support of their latest album, Die Digital. The four piece Ithaca natives won their claim to a fan base by locating a harmony between two dominant genres, as described on their facebook page "Analog synthesizers and heavy bass notes fill the electronic role, while big guitars create space for shredding within the structure of pure indie rock." They've played their fresh hybrid at music festivals in the northeast such as Summer Camp, Camp Bisco, and Mountain Jam. They will supported by Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. The event starts at 8:00PM and $10 will get you through the door!

Festival mainstays Jimkata are bringing their electro-rock hybrid sound to Duke's tonight. Supporting their fan funded album Die Digital, the four piece have been consistently gaining steam over the past few years with high profile sets at festivals such as Camp Bisco, Mountain Jam and Summer Camp. For my money though, music like this is always best enjoyed in a packed club. Duke's has been doing a remarkable job filling the live music hole that Mohawk Place left behind, expanding on their DJ night mainstays with an eclectic schedule of live bands across all genres. Electronic jam four piece Space Junk open the show, who I'm told were the highlight of their show at Duke's earlier this month, making the $7 cover a steal. Doors are at 9pm.

Jimkata returns to the Forvm tonight for a Friday night show of rock with electro sensibilities. The four piece band is based out of Ithaca and is known for their energetic performances. Bringing a taste of synthesizers and drum machines to their classic rock sound, Jimkata has been described as a potential rocking up-and-comer. Their opener is Wakos, another local band with explosive live power. The Forvm, for those not aware, is at 4224 Maple Road near U.B. Presale tickets are $10; $12 at the door. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. Hope to see you there!

Say what you want about jam kids; these folks know how to organize a show, bring together a crowd, and they actually dance for danceable bands instead of crossing their arms all aloof. A couple weeks ago, I saw Jimkata play to a packed house at Rochester's Dubland Underground: over the course of the show, the energetic crowd even went from being about 4% female to approximately 32%, which is pretty empirically dope considering the often bro-centricness of the venue. Combining electro-rock, pop, and a rare strain of jamtronica that doesn't cross the Cheesiness Threshold, the Ithaca-based quartet has been steadily infiltrating the East Coast jam scene and galvanizing an audience over the last few years. Their most recent record, Ghosts and Killers, is available from www.jimkata.com with a pay-what-you-can price tag, but it's really in a live setting that the group excels. The bass thumps, guitars sparkle, and despite his otherwise unobtrusive, guy-you-didn't-notice-at-the-college-house-party appearance, frontman Evan Friedell's compelling voice and lively presence makes him a commanding centerpiece for Jimkata's transcendent mix of sights and sounds. They don't really make it out this way that often, so be sure to check them out tonight at The Forvm (4224 Maple Rd, 8pm, $10) with Buffalo jamsters Aqueous.
