Tonight: Laidback Luke

Despite this years DJ MAG Top 100 dropping Laidback Luke to 31st overall, in my opinion, he is one of the top 10 DJs in the world. What has he been up to lately? Oh only coming off of a summer jam-packed with dates at the world's most popular dance music festivals, followed up by a grueling bus tour across North America. He wouldn't have it any other way. Luke loves to perform and is very humble, choosing to travel via bus instead of flying. He is also a closet Martial Arts champion and is internationally recognized for that as well as DJing.

Tonight he will perform at Rendezvous Nightclub inside Statler City. General admission tickets are still available for $26.00 before 5pm today HERE and will also available at the door for an increased price. Doors are at 8pm. Dress to impress. Event is 21 and over.

Expect an expert set of House and Dance music from this well seasoned and respected performer. In support will be Moska, a member of LL's record label, Mixmash Records, and also local House DJ Brother Bear. Check out Laidback Luke's latest single below, titled "Blow," a collaboration with Martin Solveig.

Know Your Opener: The M Machine

San Fransisco based electronic group The M Machine opens for Markus Schulz tonight at the Statler Towers. Producing and succeeding under the wing of Skrillex, The M Machine was signed to his label, OWSLA, and have since released some EPs and various remixes.

They have an intriguing sound. They produce a genre that blends high-energy dance instrumentals with indie-type vocals. Comprised by Ben Swardlick, Eric Luttrell, and Andy Coenen, their success has grown greatly over the past few years. And to be opening for big-name trance DJ and producer Markus Schulz is an honor.

If you already have your tickets for the show, be ready for a spectacle. According to the Facebook event page, tonight has outgrown Rendezvous and will be held instead upstairs in the Golden Ballroom of Statler City. And be sure to get there for headlining opener, The M Machine.

Listener's Digest: Markus Schulz - Soundcloud Mix Spring 2103

Markus Schulz is revolutionizing Trance for a new age of listeners. He is making accessible a more classic style of Dance music to younger group of partygoers who may not be privy to underground raves of yesteryear. The music is epic and entrancing, thereby appropriating itself to massive rooms and vast concert experiences. On Friday, Schulz will be performing at Rendezvouz Nightclub inside Statler City as part the US Scream bus tour. Coming off of shows at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and A STATE OF TRANCE at Madison Square Garden, he is fluent in the current vibrations of the dance music world. This mix is one that he made specifically for his Soundcloud page for spring-time and to promote this upcoming tour, a nice treat for his fans new and old.

Tonight: Eddie Halliwell

Factory Nightlife presents DJ extraordinaire Eddie Halliwell tonight at Rendezvous Niteclub in Statler City. He has become greatly known and respected as an international trance DJ in the decade or so of his career. In addition to being a former DJ for BBC Radio 1, he has also had other phenomenal achievements such as producing seven essential mixes, in 2011 he launched his label Fire It Up Recordings (FIUR) and has spent his fifth year at Cream Ibiza as resident DJ along with Calvin Harris, Laidback Luke, and Paul Van Dyk.

"Now kids just use them, for example, Eddie Halliwell - what he does with those Pioneer CD players is fucking nuts! He had no hesitation; he just went for it and has probably got the best out of the machine," said Paul Van Dyk, a highly-esteemed Grammy award-winning EDM DJ, raising the bar for Halliwell and his talents.

For most of his career he produced only remixes, until he debuted his long-awaited original track "Neon" in the summer of 2011.

Check him on Twitter and Facebook.

The show tonight is strictly 21+ and dress to impress. For more information, check out the Facebook event page.

Concert Review: Paul Oakenfold

Black chandeliers were suspended over the long rectangular dance floor and the flashing lights lit up the fancy attire of those who filled Rendezvous Niteclub. A few screens surrounding the DJ set projected the crisp Factory Nightlife logo while deep house kept a continuous feel-good groove.

The venue was dripping with elegance. The sophisticated decor of Statler City and the club itself was breathtaking. Each room had personality and an atmosphere that breathed sleekness.

Jarvis and Angelo Petrucci warmed up the crowd until legendary DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold took the stage. The floor quickly filled in with dancing people and became progressively compact and sweaty, but from what I saw no one seemed to mind. Oakenfold's set was flawless. Well paced house and trance, Oakenfold kept the mood appropriately peaking and dipping.

During his set the screens were projected with mesmerizing morphing geometrical patterns and trippy visuals. Images of women dressed in white danced on a beach as he dropped an Above and Beyond track - my heart soared. That night, Oakenfold brought a perfect mental journey for the trance and house heads. It was a set that had the ability to reach the core of your soul.

Tonight: Paul Oakenfold

Paul Oakenfold, a legend to the EDM scene, will be performing tonight in Buffalo. A big thanks to Factory Nightlife for scoring such a major booking, the show will be held at Rendezvous Niteclub at Statler City (107 Delaware Ave) from 10pm-4am and "come dance all night to this DJ."

Oakenfold's DJ career began in the late 1970s and has prospered greatly up to the present. He has touched almost every aspect of media with his unique presence. His musical history tracks back and is so widespread that it's quite unbelievable how much he has done; collaboration efforts with what seems to be a never-ending list of prominent names in the business, his music has been featured on commercials and he's also taken part in developing soundtracks for films.

In 1989, Oakenfold established Perfecto Records, a trance recording label based in the United Kingdom.

His genre identity is very expansive and ranges, and is not limited to, electronic dance, progressive house, progressive trance, drum and bass, breakbeats and by the 2000s was releasing productions inspired by classic genres such as jazz and soul. An interesting characteristic of Oakenfold's music is his Goa based tunes, specifically trance. Goa music became an inspiration of his in the 1990s after discovering the electronic music genre that originated in Goa, India in the late 80s.

An intriguing track to explore is his original production, "Nixon's Spirit", which embodies hints of the Indian inspired genre and almost has an overall feel of psy-trance paired with Hunter S. Thompson's declarative voice-over.

Over the past decades Oakenfold has won numerous awards and has been top charted internationally.

Don't sleep on this one.
Check out the event page on facebook.
And his official site.

While you're getting ready to head out later tonight, have a listen to his most recent radio mix.

P.S. Remember this one? "Starry Eyed Surprise" Paul Oakenfold ft Shifty from Crazy Town. Oh Crazy Town...

The Drum Machine Report

As the world turns there is plenty of juicy news from the Electronic and Dance music scene in Buffalo. Two new club/venues are on the radar, and those are Rendezvous in the Statler Tower and Big Bad Wolf on Delaware and Chippewa. Big Bad Wolf or BBW as I will refer to it as, has the stupidest name ever. That song isn’t even good. But the spot where it is, is nice. Sort of removed from Chippewa. Despite the monicker, BBW has potential to bounce with the right atmosphere. I regret not going to check the status of the Statler last weekend; haven’t been in there since I was a kid! Mixed reports though as to what one may expect. One thing that is for sure is that they’re sure motivated to book some big-time Trance shows with the news that Paul Oakenfold will be playing there in on Friday March 16th! That’s huge! And although he was recently voted the world’s douchiest DJ by LA Weekly, I thoroughly enjoyed the parts of the Trance legend’s 5 hour long set at Bonnaroo three years ago. Parts of it. Also, Conspirator will be returning with Elliot Lipp in March to the Town Ballroom on Saturday the 10th. The show was a huge hit last time around, and with the future of The Disco Biscuits hanging in the balance, this might be it.
Congratulations to the boys of HXLY on the release of their EP this past Monday on Heavy Artillery Recordings. Fueled up Drumstep with a good focus is how best to describe the tunes. Not my favorite style, but most certainly relevant at present. Good work was put into the production. You can catch them live this weekend at Soundlab, and for more information read below:

If you don’t do something this easy, you’ll have to pay. So there. COSMIC GATE is a Trance duo from Germany. Definitely the deeper stuff. Not sure if it would be Robert Anton Wilson’s idea of the Cosmic Gate, but it might certainly take you there. They are touring off of their latest digital album release Wake Your Mind. Opening will be Buffalo’s ANGELO PETRUCCI. Let’s see what the new upscale digs has to offer.

TOWN BALLROOM

MNM Presents 11th year anniversary party ringing the return of Jungle Drum and Bass. Featuring one of the OGs DJ HYPE. What’s more is that the Ballroom is going past 1230, how often do you get to party there that late? Um, never. DJ HYPE is not a person who frequents the United States these days so this is a rare opportunity for Junglists and DnB fans across WNY and Southern Ontario to get to see him. The main room will be Jungle/DnB maybe a bit of Dubstep From HYPE w/MC DADDY EARL, HOOGS, U.S. MARSHALL, PERCEPTOR, and MARK KLOUD, and out in the Front side room will be Old-School Breaks and Electro from 3PO and MCNASTY. Big Basha appearing on the poster, will not be performing. Check out the interview below with HYPE on the Guestlist network and get a look at him before the big show on Saturday! Interesting discussion on turntablism. I hate when interviewers ask dumb ass fucking questions, but I’d rather prefer “two fit birds” as well.

EVOLve

Take care everyone. Playing with ice can be just as dangerous at times, as playing with fire. Both can burn the flesh. Party responsibly and smart. Much Love.
