It's been FOREVER since the Shins put out anything new. Well, really since 2007, but that's a really long time. Since then, front man James Mercer teamed up with Danger Mouse to become the spacey Broken Bells while along the way pretty much gutting the Albuquerque based indie pop band leaving only himself in the rubble. This past fall, videos of Mercer playing new Shins material live and solo began leaking, but not until last month did any album details of a new Shins album really begin to see the light. Titled Port of Morrow, the newly formed Shins will release their 4th full length on March 20th. Being on the Shins mailing list finally paid off earlier this afternoon, as a link to the first single from the album was emailed. "Simple Song", which you can listen to below, certainly sounds Shins esque. I guess anything with Mercer on it has that feel, but the song is bigger and different that what I have heard from the band the past and I think I like it. See for yourself.
