Tonight: Langhorne Slim

Fans of freewheelin’ folk best make their way to Babeville’s Ninth Ward tonight to catch Langhorne Slim. While it’s not exactly clear why Slim and his boys are touring right now (his last album was released in 2009), the Ninth Ward seems like an ideal venue for his boisterous blend of nasal crooning and twanging guitar.

A native of Langhorne, Pennsylvania and a graduate of SUNY Purchase, Sean Scolnick (aka Langhorne Slim) signed with indie label Narnack Records in 2004 and released his first EP The Electric Love Letter that year. The title track won attention from Rolling Stone and was featured in the film Waitress. In 2005, he put out his debut LP, When the Sun’s Gone Down, featuring such awesome tracks as “In the Midnight” and “I Love to Dance,” as well as his previous hit “The Electric Love Letter.” 2008 saw Slim release a self-titled sophomore LP (also great) and then another, Be Set Free, in 2009.

Langhorne Slim and his band The Law are gearing up to record a new album in 2012, and they’re asking fans to chip in through the musical equivalent of Kickstarter – PledgeMusic. If you’ve got a spare $1,500 lying around, you can get yourself a house party with Slim and the boys.

The show starts tonight at 8. Tickets are $11 and Rayland Baxter opens the show.
