I haven't played video games in years. I think I lost interest somewhere around N64. 8 Bit was my thing though and if you challenged me to Astyanax or Double Dragon, you were going to lose. In recent years, the scores of 8 bit games have been the subject of remixes and re-vamping courtesy of awesome live bands adding their creative touches to the mix. Tonight's Protomen is a good example. Essentially, they are a rock band who plays music from Mega Man, my all time favorite video game franchise. Also on the bill, which is taking place at Mohawk Place (6pm, $17), is Powerglove, an instrumental metal group that also performs cartoon and movie themed music, as well as Danimal Cannon (of local favorites Armcannon) and It's a Dinosaur. These shows are always a blast; It's nice to hear tunes you grew up with that have been long forgotten. Unleash your inner child.

I don't think the protomen play music "from mega man" as much as they play music "inspired by mega man". Just a small distinction. Either way. It turned out to be quite a show. Danimal Cannon was amazing...as always. The Protomen knocked it out of the park. I wish they'd come to buffalo more often.
