Artist Spotlight: Matt Script

This past week in the buffaBLOG inbox, we received a digital EP titled Permatransience by Chicago transplant/Buffalo native Matt Script. To be honest, I was very skeptical to check this out, because the e-mail described Matt Script as an “urban folk loop artist,” to which I scoffed/rolled my eyes at my desk/imagined an empty coffee shop with the drilling sound of a latte being made… but Matt Script’s Permatransience is so much more impressive than this and I feel almost guilty with my initial assessment. Permatransience is a fantastic five-song self-released EP ranging from down-tempo, acoustic Dodo’s-esque jams with looped drumbeats to upbeat indie Matt Pond/Pinback-y rock. The song “Caught Up” belongs on a Best of Buffalo compilation, if he still lived here. It is without a doubt the outstanding track on this already great EP. I've been listening to it all morning and you should too. Check out "Caught Up" below and be on the lookout for this guy. He's good.
