There is only one day remaining in this year, and a million more days to enjoy Medison’s 2013 Winter Mixtape. Released five days ago, Buffalo’s DJ Medison shows exemplary talent and fun in this new mix available to stream on his SoundCloud page.

The opening guitar riff puts a chuckle in the belly so you know its going to be amusing. Then after warming the Hip-Hop vibe, around the 9 minute mark Medison drops into this crazy Jersey Club and Juke combo with a DJ Irresistible edit of Trinidad James' “All Gold Everything.” My favorite part of the mix is at the 23:28 mark when we hear the Baaze remix of Yheti's “Crack the Window.” That song is nutty, like exhaling smoke and watching it dissipate out of a cracked car window with that unique and breathy synth line that totally trips you out! 

Medsion then transitions perfectly to Thrizzo's “Hotter Than Hot” and follows that up with SwaggleRock edit of the Baauer x RL Grime x Nelly's “Infinite Flaps” mashup. That part of the mix is so fun and so weird that it makes Blake Anderson momentarily enter your soul to dance in a bear suit! If you’re searching for something to listen to for that pre-game New Year’s Eve Party, this is an upbeat power hour. Just recently, First Aid Kit has become an object of my affection.  When I initially discovered them through future bass producer baauer's remix of "Winter Is All Over You," their vocals and solemn lyrics sucked me in like a black hole.  Next thing I knew I found myself waking up to the shining sun with The Lion's Roar playing from my battered stereo system.

The Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg started in 2007.  Of course I grew a liking to them since their music is folk soaked in solace with just a hint of positivity.  You could only imagine my excitement when I heard they were coming to Buffalo nearly immediately after finding this newfound love.  Read our artist spotlight of First Aid Kit to find out more about them.  And if you crave something a little heavier, check out the baauer tune from our weekly remix last week.

Folk feelings of abandonment in a sizzurp slur, baauer's remix of "Winter Is All Over You" is beautifully composed and appropriately remixed.  Brooklyn based trap producer baauer, takes the delicate plucking and crooning vocals of Johanna and Klara Söderberg, the sisters who form First Aid Kit, and adds chopped and screwed vocals, bass, and hypnotic panning.  He gives it more audio depth while still maintaining the heavy set tone of their lyrical endeavor.
