There is only one day remaining in this year, and a million more days to enjoy Medison’s 2013 Winter Mixtape. Released five days ago, Buffalo’s DJ Medison shows exemplary talent and fun in this new mix available to stream on his SoundCloud page.

The opening guitar riff puts a chuckle in the belly so you know its going to be amusing. Then after warming the Hip-Hop vibe, around the 9 minute mark Medison drops into this crazy Jersey Club and Juke combo with a DJ Irresistible edit of Trinidad James' “All Gold Everything.” My favorite part of the mix is at the 23:28 mark when we hear the Baaze remix of Yheti's “Crack the Window.” That song is nutty, like exhaling smoke and watching it dissipate out of a cracked car window with that unique and breathy synth line that totally trips you out! 

Medsion then transitions perfectly to Thrizzo's “Hotter Than Hot” and follows that up with SwaggleRock edit of the Baauer x RL Grime x Nelly's “Infinite Flaps” mashup. That part of the mix is so fun and so weird that it makes Blake Anderson momentarily enter your soul to dance in a bear suit! If you’re searching for something to listen to for that pre-game New Year’s Eve Party, this is an upbeat power hour. The Christmas Party. In the years I have lived in Buffalo, each year I would pack my suitcase, shut down my dorm room or apartment, and head home to Syracuse for the holiday season. I would return and hear every single one of my friends talk about "The Christmas Party," although never in full-detail. This party, in my eyes, became a wintertime enigma.

While my school books are collecting dust in my closet, I have entered the real world. Although I will miss my month long vacation from responsibilities, and this year I'll have to wake up at the crack of dawn on Dec. 26 to head to my day job, I am ecstatic that The Christmas Party is an experience I will finally have.

What seems to be the most wild holiday party of the year has just been announced by MNM Presents for 2013.

The only reason I ever really leave a show early is if the after-party is more appealing than the event itself or if my desire for a Jim's stinger sub is unmanageable. Last Friday night at Sky Bar, I was there till the lights turned on and the 4 a.m.-ers were clapping for dirtybird crew member J. Phlip as she finished her set. Factory Nightlife is flying another dirtybird into the Queen City tonight and it is definitely not a show to miss.

Justin Martin, one of the co-founders of the crew and label, will be performing at Sky Bar for Factory Nightlife's Summer Series. His productions are sexy and deep and mixing is dare I say flawless. I have a personal obsession with the cover of his 2012 album release Ghettos & Gardens; a 40 ounce filled with flowers for the poetically hood.



Opening the event are Buffalo locals: DJ Jesse Aaron, and SwaggleRock (222 Oceans and Cloud 11). Get there early.



Summer is coming to an end and September is encroaching; soon Buffalo will be blanketed by winter slush. Take advantage of Sky Bar's rooftop view, the warm weather and the breeze of the season on your skin. Get sexy and dance to the dirtybird.

In the spirit of Memorial Day weekends past, a group of Chippewa clubs is having an Electronic Music Showcase tonight! Resident DJs at The Guvernment, Mark Oliver and Manzone & Strong, will make the trip down to Buffalo and be the featured performers of this showcase. Some of Buffalo's most popular club DJs will keep it going until 4am as always. The events will be dispersed among Soho Burger Bar, Privato, Bottoms Up, and The Purple Monkey. Though it is not stated, there may likely be cover charges at the doors of the establishments. Also the schedule and time slots for the performers will not be released until today. There's going to be an awesome dance party at Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar tonight! New Horizon Events brings you Electric Love, a night designed for positively letting loose. Electric Love will feature some of Buffalo's best dance music aficionados. This includes Swagglerock, aka Buzz Trillington and Shooter Mcnappin both of whom have been very productive of late with their own music. When put together they are an unstoppable duo of party adaptation. Sunglasses Mike and The Owski will also be on the decks this eve. The both of them are two of Buffalo's best talents, with a specialty of making dance music mixes sexy and provocative. Also performing will be C-Perfect and a surprise special guest DJ! Just added to sponsor the event will be Red Bull, which means there will be featured drink specials if your into destroying yourself.

I heard about this event at the Pierce-Arrow building several months ago and have been looking forward to it since. TOATS ORIG and Fat Katz Entertainment present Mayday, Mayday Pop-Up Party. With Buffalo's classic venues on a downward closing spiral, it'll be refreshing to see some of our city's finest talent throwing it down at a whole new venue. The Pierce-Arrow is spacious with the warehouse vibe to it. In addition to the music, visuals will be provided by Projex. Come through tonight and check it out.

Remember when you were a kid and you'd bring home a paper or test, and on top would be 100 circled in red. Maybe your Papa threw you five bucks or your Mom secured it with a magnet on the fridge? It's been apparent from the beginning that life is about keepin' it one hunnid.

Local DJs and producers Shooter McNappin and Buzz Trillington, from the duo SwaggleRock, released some original tracks on the exclusive EP by music blog Do Androids Dance. You may be an avid fan. You may remember them from Omega Lounge before it closed, and if you ever go to Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar you've definitely seen them. Maybe you were at Town Ballroom waiting for [insert beloved headliner name here] to hit the stage and were blown away by them as they warmed up the floor. Buzz Trillington and Shooter McNappin have opened for big names like Rusko, Brillz, Flosstradamus, DJ Craze, David Heartbreak, DJ Sliink, Donald Glaude, Cobra Krames, and that's just to name a few. Now with a little traveling under their belt, just last month they made their way to Baltimore for a Dicksquad rager. These Niagara Falls based boys stay turnt up.

You may recognize another familiar name on the EP, Notixx. He opened for Caspa a couple months ago and has some heavy releases on his SoundCloud. Perhaps you caught Pickster One when he came through for Field Day last year. Also featured on We Keep It EP is Phoenix based Riot Earp, and also H-Town's Ape Drums.

Tonight the biggest names in the Buffalo DJ scene are coming together for a Project X-esque pool party. Will it possibly end up like this? One can only hope.

Do that thing, do that thing, do it! This weekend is gonna be HOT. No, literraly hot. Humans have been known to suffer from convulsions brought on by heat stroke. This can often be confused for dancing. The main solution for this ailment is water, but some times cooling adult beverages can be refreshing as well.  Pelvic thrusting may be resumed after suffering heat stroke, but only after hydration. A couple events are on the radar this weekend for the Dance and Electronica scene, including three weekly events in the Chippewa district that will tickle your fancy.

RipRoc invades Buffalo for a mixed night of guest DJs featuring MICSEE, KETO, SKANNTRON, and PAPI CHULO. The later is one of the coolest DJs in the region right now; playing a ton of mixed up party music, and really having a grasp for how the room and party is feeling. Maybe their bringing us an alien message of collaboration from down the Interstate 90.
Also going on this Saturday are two weekly events that may be worth checking out; one thats been going on for a couple of weeks and one just starting up.

The first of which is SWAGGLEROCK on the patio (weather determined) at Social every Saturday night in the summer. Playing their own mix of House, Dubstep, PartyRock and Moombahton. Super-swaggy Social patio is always a hit. 228 franklin st. Buffalo, NY

Next is Pertucci's patio sessions starting up this Saturday at the Buffalo Tap House featuring ANGELO PETRUCCI. Not really sure where the fuck this spot is because I've never been there before. Buffalo's DJ duo SwaggleRock has been upping their production game over the past few months, especially Steve Brown, otherwise known as DJ eSBie.  At a slightly slower tempo and with the incorporation of some new sounds, his bootleg of Grimes' "Vanessa" is an impressive rendering of the track released by the Canadian indie artist on the Darkbloom EP.  Tinkling bells paired with her angelic vocals brings a chilled out variation to the quick heartbeat of the original.

Not only was Buffalo impressed with Excision's set Monday night at Town Ballroom, but the feeling was reciprocated. "You guys know your shit, good for you!" he exclaimed into the mic as the crowd reacted to "Undah Yuh Skirt" a consistently banging track since Zeds Dead released it.

Prior to Excision was a quick set from Buffalo's own Stuntman, followed by fellow touring DJs Lucky Date and Liquid Stranger. Liquid Stranger, whom I was very much looking forward to, had a great opening set and was a perfect warm up for the intense sound to come.

The specially designed 100,000 watt PK sound system vibrated from the floor of the venue up and through to the end of your nose (no exaggeration.) Little colored ear plugs were undoubtedly in many ears that night. The "x vision" visualizer was projected upon a large geometric structure in the shape of an X, three spikes were erect on either side, the ones closest to the electric letter reached upwards like the horns of a bull. He and his decks were raised and behind at the intersection of the X.

The crowd danced without a lull and a mosh pit formed in front of the stage. When his set came to a close, everyone cheered for an encore with their arms raised and crossed to form an "x." Encouraged by an emphatic audience, he continued the show with two more tracks one of which was "Louder" by DJ Fresh. Not that the show could have gotten any louder.


If you didn't attend the after-party, you sincerely goofed. Stuntman, HXLY and SwaggleRock had phenomenal sets and the quaint underground Soundlab was jam-packed with Excision go-ers ready to rage through the night. I'm sure Tuesday morning, many were left with sore legs and ringing ears, but it was well worth it.

The "X" Tour is hitting Town Ballroom tonight with the 100,000 watt sound system specifically designed for this massive dubstep performance. MNM Presents the sounds of Excision, Liquid Stranger and Lucky Date that will be blasting through the 18'' sub-woofers while a video feature entitled "x vision", an intelligent video mapping system to enhance and escalate.

Excision has designed a show that brings memorable stories; he does not just perform but brings an experience. Canadian native and only 22 years old, this DJ and producer has quickly gained popularity in his productions and the noteworthy unique performance of drum n bass, dubstep and metal influenced sets. He is also known for his collaborative work with Datsik, another dubstep artist whom was in Buffalo about a month ago with Steve Aoki and the Deadmeat Tour.

Perhaps the artist I'm most excited for tonight is Liquid Stranger. His experimental merging of various genres has signed him to a handful of record labels and got him on stage of numerous music festivals. In 2003 he launched The Liquid Stranger Project, from which Martin Stääf developed his moniker hoping to keep it a secret alias.

Lucky Date, DJ and producer originally from San Fransisco is only 20 years old. At such a young age, he has already produced official remixes for artists such as Crystal Castles and Zedd. Among his achievements include being signed to electro label Big Fish Recordings and his synth engineering. He is known for genres such as bass aggressive electro, tech house, progressive house, dutch house and dubstep.

Doors open at 8pm and the show ends at midnight.

The Drum Machine Report is a weekly rundown on buffaBLOG of events and parties that feature dance and electronic music here in the 716. From time to time we present news and notes from the local scene. Buffalo is a diverse city with many different music tastes. For those looking to dance and party, this is for you.

After all the hype that RUSKO got on his return to Buffalo, I’ll be the first to cry foul, party foul that is. The show was extremely energetic, and Christopher’s song selection was great! But Dude was probably too fucked up to perform. Not to be too much of a dick about it, but when you come that close to dumping the decks and the entire rig, and then follow that up with blatant promotion of drug use into the mic, you’re probably not in the right state of mind to perform. Alas the majority of spunion rookies were oblivious to these snafus. Admittedly, I am no saint, but as a performer in the arts, I have developed a certain respect for completion of prior responsibilities, which Rusko did, just very sloppily. In my opinion CASPA put on a much better show. On a lighter note, the opening performers, local DJs SWAGGLEROCK and MEDISON were apparently on-point to guests who arrived early to the Ballroom on Tuesday. Respect to them.

This weekend will slither down the dark end of Buffalo’s spectrum. Here’s where to look:

Rusko, England native and world-renowned DJ and producer from the Mad Decent crew headlines the show. Well versed in music after growing up submerged in a musical environment and also graduating from Leeds University with a degree in Musical Performance, Rusko has evolved from dark dubstep to the more energy induced dubstep being played today. His first album "O.M.G.!" was released in March of 2010 and has also released a myriad of remixes and singles. In addition to this success, his productions have been remixed by big names such as Caspa, Diplo, Sub Focus and Netsky.

Tickets sold as fast as Usain Bolt in the Olympics, so if you luckily bought your ticket ahead of time, you already know that you're in for a treat tonight. The excited tension can be felt through the brisk Buffalo air.

Luvstep, comprised of DJs Flufftronix and Dirty South Joe debut their third mix of their project. Luvstep is released every Valentine's Day. The track selections of melodic dubstep and samples of romantic dialogue from films such as "10 Things I Hate About You" are beautifully blended to create an atmosphere that reaches great emotional depth. The female vocals and lyrics of new-found love and heartbreak will leave you with goosebumps.

Clicks & Whistles, DJ duo Petey Evans and Jorge Hernandez, are young to the scene but making big moves. Their sound has a wide range that consists of genres from Southern rap to UK funky. If you haven't already, have a listen to their "Cranberry Goose" EP. A difficult sound to describe but unique in its own is worth exploring.
