Buffalo-based producer/DJ Rufus Gibson makes tracks with an old school, laid-back feel, using soul and disco samples to achieve an organic, groove-based sound. Earlier this week, he released his latest EP, the fittingly titled Afterhour Groove, featuring four excellent tracks in the soulful house style the producer has become known for. The title track includes a funky bass line and the punchy drum production found throughout the EP. "Ashy Ankles" stands out with its' infectious vintage vocal sample and is one of the more impressive tracks from Gibson to date. Stream/download the entire EP below and catch the DJ spin this Friday at 31 Club as part of a new weekly event.

Disco Infiltrator: January 24th
Rufus Gibson - "I Don't Want Your Love No More Honey"
Buffalo-based producer/DJ Rufus Gibson has become known for his house tunes that have a certain organic feel, often sampling live drums and always laying down an infectious groove. His latest track, "I Don't Want Your Love No More Honey," is no exception as a fluid bassline and soulful rhythm carry the tune and make for a smooth, nostalgic vibe.
Magic Touch -"You (Feat. Octo Octa & Newbody)"
Los Angeles producer Magic Touch recently shared "You," a track from his upcoming album, Palermo House Gang, out February 25th on 100% Silk. The skipping cut features label mates Newbody and Octo Octa who combine for an R&B infused house jam. Download the track below.
Billon - "Meditate"
Ed Butler and Robbie Lamond collaborate as producers under the name Billon and have quickly become one of the UK's more promising upcoming house acts after releasing their Turn It Around EP last year. "Meditate" is a forthcoming single out on their new label, Rinse, and is an instantly ear-catching tune with well executed vocal samples, dreamy synths, and an overall glossy production style that manages to feel highly original despite the familiar formula.
Lorca - "Naoko"
Brighton artist Lorca is set to release a new single "Forgive Me Love/ Naoko," February 17th on Naked Naked. The b-side is a beautifully layered track that interweaves melodies and rhythms to make for a blissful, slightly hypnotic vibe. With crisp bass and percussion, the tune's dancefloor inclinations are obvious amidst the more cerebral textures.

Jabru - "Like You Care"
British producer Jabru recently released Calling Card Vol. 1, a free EP to close out a year which also included a collaborative EP with fellow UK artist Hackman and an appearance on the first compilation for the new label, Sounds of the Cosmos. Showing off an impressive range that includes tech house, downtempo, bass, and house, the collection is yet another reason to pay attention to the rising producer. The record's standout track, "Like You Care," is a straightforward house cut with a jittery synth line and dense bassline. Download the track below.
Squarehead - "Murdercedes"
Appearing on vinyl-only label Manucci Mistress, this track by Squarehead was recently made available as a free download. The atmospheric house cut features a sample of "Ride The Storm" by Linda Clifford, which is used to create a deep groove carried by hard-hitting percussion and a stomping bassline. Download the track below.
Rufus Gibson - "Ashy Ankles"
DJ/Producer and Buffalo resident Rufus Gibson gave us a new track via his soundcloud page last week. "Ashy Ankles" has an old school house vibe and features a soulful breakdown that slowly reintroduces the track's jacking rhythm and vintage disco vocal sample. With a funky bass groove and punchy kick drum, it's hard to deny the effectiveness of sounds that dance music was built upon which find themselves on full display here in Gibson's latest cut.
Lancelot - "Givin' It Up (Ft. Antony & Cleopatra)
Sydney resident Lance Gurisik makes tracks under the name Lancelot, and is set to release his third EP, Givin' It Up, on deep house label, Anjunadeep. The title track features London duo Antony & Cleopatra on vocals and an infectious groove with layered synths that make for a smooth, soulful vibe. Look for remixes by MK and Isaac Tichauer on the way as well as the physical release January 20th.
Mix of The Week: Hot Since 82 - "Knee Deep in 2013 Mix"
Leeds producer Hot Since 82 shared this over 2 hour mix of some his favorite tunes from the past year, which includes tracks from Dusky, The Martinez Brothers, and Trevino. For those looking to see what 2013 had to offer in terms of house music, this is a perfect starting point. Download the mix below.

Huxley - "Inkwell"
London-based producer Huxley has stayed on our radar this year with releases with fellow UK artist Shenoda, a huge remix of Basement Jaxx' "What a Difference Your Love Makes" as well as EP's for Rinse and Kolour. His latest effort, Inkwell, is due out December 9th on the quickly-rising Aus Music imprint. The title track features an attention-grabbing bass line paired with a hypnotic vocal sample and chugging rhythm to make for one of the biggest sounding cuts we've heard from the young artist.
Citizen & Ashworth - "Situation"Feat. Shona Carmen (Radio Edit)
The deep, 90's house vibes are strong on the latest track from UK producers Citizen and Joe Ashworth. With rich vocals from singer Shona Carmen and a thick bass line, the energy slowly builds around a soulful groove that according to the artists, aims to "evoke the spirit of legendary clubs such as NY's Sound Factory."
Beautiful Swimmers - "The Zoo"
Washington, D.C.'s Beautiful Swimmers combine breakbeats with an atmospheric house sound on "The Zoo," which is set to be included on New York based label L.I.E.S Music for Shut-ins Compilation out December 10th. The dancefloor-ready cut is built around absolutely killer rhythms, specifically one break around the six minute mark that provide a sense of urgency to the otherwise mellow vibe and make for a stunningly well-balanced sound.
Tensnake - "No Relief" (Feat. Fiora)
Hamburg, Germany house producer Tensnake is expected to release his much anticipated debut album on Virgin records early next year. The record features two collaborations with disco-legend Nile Rodgers and guest vocals from Fiora on the track "No Relief," a stomping, bold slice of deep house. Download the track below.
Mix of the Week: Rufus Gibson - "2013 End Of Year Mix"
One of Buffalo's premier DJs, Rufus Gibson dropped this soulful collection of house with plenty of old school vibes, featuring names like Hector Morales, Darius Syrossian, deep house legend Moodymann, as well as an original cut from Gibson, "5 People" to close out the mix. Other highlights include a track from California producer Giano, "This is House," with an elegant commentary on the genre over a silky smooth groove. Download the mix below.

The Drum Machine Report
The whole world is building up to a climax for another year change. It's going to be 2013! This year there has been too much to remember, not many things we'd like to remember. Many things happened and didn't happen that help us to actualize our own humanity.
The best thing to do at this time of year is to reflect and learn from what has passed, so that we can grow further into the future.
If anyone has any energy left there are some pretty sweet parties going on this weekend!

The Drum Machine Report
The City of No Illusions shall hide no defect. We are rusty, we are tried. Thus is the nature of Buffalo. That is no reason for those who depart, to do so with such acrimony in their hearts. Be grateful of the thickened skin you’ve attained from braving the economic and social setbacks of our fair City. Everyone who lives here, be it briefly or lifetime, is somehow positively changed by compulsory growth of character.
One thing that I am grateful for is the plethora of local talented musicians here. Be it Bands, DJs, or Do-It Yourselfers there is plenty going on in our music scene on any given night. Thats part of what buffaBLOG is all about, bringing those facts and our opinions to you, our readers.
With this weekly post, the Drum Machine Report, I can only hope to tell you about the Dance Parties and Shindigs that are going on any given week, and to help expose the local Artists, Musicians, Promoters, and the Businesses involved. Many of whom are very talented and gracious individuals.
We’ve truly reached the dog days of summer, and when humans start to act like dogs they get goofy and itchy. Salt & Pepa kick off an energetic weekend of music at the harbor tonight, and theres some interesting things going on in the Dance music scene at some cool venues. Take a look below:

THE SIDEBAR
1459 hertel ave. Buffalo, NY
Heading up to North Buffalo on Friday night? The Sidebar will be a cool hangout as it usually is, but on this night will be bumpin' with performances from some local Buffalo DJs. Three of which I've never heard of before DJ ZONG, who has a hilarious name, and ALEX VLUAJ and BRANDON VULAJ, whom I can only assume are brothers. Also taking the vibe to many different places will be three performers that are on fire right now, RUFUS GIBSON, MIOSI, and PAUL KEUNZI. Check out some of their recent stuff below. Saturday head to the Hertel strip to see it live and in a cool setting.

SINFUL
334 delaware ave. Buffalo, NY
On Saturday check out the sheik vibe going on over at Buffalo's off-the-radar nightclub Sinful. The EVOLve party picks up again this weekend and is taking place after a Fashion Show presented by the venue earlier that evening. Swank. Something that I have been hopefully anticipating is seemingly coming to fruition here in Buffalo. That is a movement of nightclub owners to reserve nights for the "Not Top-40" Dance scene, and what's more is that it's at a club not on Chippewa st. A nightclub where one can enjoy a clean vodka drink on a couch fancier than their pants. Similarly to Rendezvous, this club has a compacted big-city feel. Another thing I have been anticipating is the return of OONASLIM to Buffalo! Oona has traveled all over the world perfecting her crafts of DJ and artistry. In performance, she fingers through different music as though she was tickling the listeners pineal gland. Taking her audience to nearly hallucinogenic heights and creating danceable dimensions unknown to the human mind. She is not to be missed, and in a posh nightclub it will be interesting to see how the music and listener evolve together. In support will be DJs JUST DUBBS, PAUL KUENZI, CHRISTIAN DHARMA, and GENE LINET. Listen below to the mix Oona did for Beatport earlier this year.
10p-4a
$5/21+
OHM ULTRA LOUNGE
948 main st. Buffalo, NY
For those who want some Bass music with substance you should check out Frosty Tone's new Saturday ting over at Ohm Ultra Lounge on the corner of Allen and Main. The crew at Frosty Tone is rolling out the OG vibe and in a new home. The Ultra Lounge has a club like feel with a seedy kind of film over everything; a negative that is accepted for the savvy Buffalo night lovers. Expect a healthy mix of Dubstep, Drum n Bass, and House from TEMPERS ROUGE, DROP D, NECKBRACE, DA BUTCHA, DEMI GOD, PERCEPTOR, LOKI, and BIG BASHA.
Happy Trails Buffalo, enjoy yourselves safely this weekend. Much Love.
