On the second Friday of every month, resident Ghetto House DJ's Arehouse and Juicy Junk invite you to get grimy at DBGB. The aptly titled event promises "good vibes and glowy things" from The Bass Face Girls, who I've never seen but I'm sure have juicy junk, so you know this is gonna be a good night.

Special guest DJ Medison is also in the house...trust me when I say your boy will keep you dancing all night. Check his soundcloud out for a minimix promo for last month's Waiting Room show with Alvin Risk so you have something to dance to while you get ready.

The event starts at 10 and has a $3 cover so bring some singles.

The Breadmakerz are the minds of Deft Aphid and Loki da Trixta. With Brooklyn emcee Loki over the instrumental productions of Deft Aphid, who was born and raised in Piekary Slaskie, Poland, they have developed a glitch-hop duo. The official music video release for their song "Polska Freska" follows the two through Poland. Hands rub two złoty - Polish bills - together and the camera front-profiles the faces of Poland, young and old, many of whom are sporting a loaf of bread.


Three remixes have been released by some of Buffalo's favorites: SwaggleRock, comprised by Buzz Trillington and Shooter McNappin, come through at 100 bpm; a reggae inspired tune from Bigski and now Brooklyn-based Mario Bee with his progressive glitched trip remix.

Tonight, the staff at buffaBLOG comes together to celebrate our 3rd annual holiday party at Duke's and you are all invited. This year, our party falls extremely close to Christmas in hopes to reign in a few Buffalo ex-pats and friends returning home for the holidays, those who normally may not get a chance to come to one of our shows. Throughout the week, we have been previewing our rather impressive lineup, at least I think it is, and in case you missed any of the spotlight posts, you can catch up below:

We snapped this photo of The Malones a second after we revealed they had been hand picked to play this Saturday at the buffaBLOG Summer Party. Chosen by the sheer force of popular demand. You can sort of tease all this out from the expressions on their faces. Expressions that tell the classic story of finish-line relief achieved after years of being the underdog, the moment when the suffering has transpired and eternal bliss has finally soaked in.

Alright, so this isn't entirely true, it's more like two truths and a lie, or better yet two truths and like, seven lies but nonetheless The Malones are actually taking the stage this Saturday and we did hand select them and they are riding that wave of eternal bliss. Here are some more true facts - their eponymous EP was featured as our album of the week, their crafty songs are highly ear receptive displays of bass, drums, guitar, and vocals (if you want a comparison you could loosely toss around names like The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, and Arctic Monkeys), they were formed last year and already they have become among the cream of the crop as far as home-town talent goes. Oh yeah, we can hardly wait for the fall, when they're said to be releasing a debut LP.  All the more reason for you to come watch them this Saturday at Duke's beginning at 10pm.

So who really needs a beach to have a good summer party anyways? On Saturday, August 10th, we will be returning to the friendly confines of Duke's (253 Allen Street) for our 2nd annual Summer Party with stacked bill of the best acts that Buffalo (and Rochester too) has to offer. Taking the stage this August will be Go Exploring, Jack Toft, Sports (Rochester), The Malones, and I Can See Mountains, along with Spooky Business, our house DJs for the evening, who were recently named Best DJ Crew in Artvoice's Best of Buffalo. As always, music kicks off at 10pm sharp and $5 is all it will take to be a part of the fun.

Love Scenes, Buffalo's favorite dream pop duo, will be playing at Duke's tonight alongside Made Violent and The Revenge Therapists. Leah Loefke and T.J Grace started making hypnotic electronic songs together back in 2010, and since then, their impressive output includes 2 full albums: Classy Excuse for a Trashy Experience and Blissed Out Youth and a label signing. For those who are unfamiliar with the duo, Grace supplies the crafty synthwork and drum-machine sequences  and Loefke's airy vocals further embellish the instrumentals by tying them up to create a cohesive melody while supplying them with the kind of heart-felt content that allows the music speak to listeners on a more deeply personal level. It's some of the finest original music that Buffalo has to offer and you can check it out tonight.   The show starts at 9PM - see ya there.

There's going to be an awesome dance party at Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar tonight! New Horizon Events brings you Electric Love, a night designed for positively letting loose. Electric Love will feature some of Buffalo's best dance music aficionados. This includes Swagglerock, aka Buzz Trillington and Shooter Mcnappin both of whom have been very productive of late with their own music. When put together they are an unstoppable duo of party adaptation. Sunglasses Mike and The Owski will also be on the decks this eve. The both of them are two of Buffalo's best talents, with a specialty of making dance music mixes sexy and provocative. Also performing will be C-Perfect and a surprise special guest DJ! Just added to sponsor the event will be Red Bull, which means there will be featured drink specials if your into destroying yourself.

Brillz, under Mad Decent and Slow Roast Records, is coming through Buffalo tonight and performing at Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar on Allen St. In addition to maintaining an enigmatic alias, Brillz has become one of the most prominent names in the trap game. His remix of Zedd's "Clarity" is perfection and he's also widely known for his collab with Etc! Etc! and Diplo on "Bueller."




Opening the night will be Brother Bear followed by SwaggleRock, the DJ duo comprised by Buzz Trillington and Shooter McNappin. These guys have been on a steady incline over the past several months. Recognized and featured on multiple music blogs, they are frequently putting out quality tunes.



There should be no cheap excuse to miss this show. Crank overdrive, get your work done, take a cat nap and get yourself to Allen. And if you're worried about a headache from all of the fun you had tonight getting in the way of your Friday, well, that's a problem worth bearing, if even a problem at all.

Formed in 2003, Lazlo Hollyfeld is certainly one of the most diverse Buffalo bands as they have shared their fresh brand of electro-rock for almost a decade now with Western NYers. The group prides themselves on constantly scanning their musical psyche for new expansive ideas and sounds, and their live performances are usually no different, often accompanied with visuals to supplement their distinctive sonic offerings. The group released their fourth studio album Desert in 2010, which shared conceptual songs inspired by a season of budgeted touring and all of the blessings and hardships that come along for the ride, and its listening experience breeds all of its striking themes with  minimal instrumental builds, congested percussion, and synth and guitar swells. 

Their anticipated follow-up is currently in the works, but that wont stop Lazlo Hollyfeld from playing buffaBLOG’s Holiday Party this Saturday at Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar (DBGBs) which will be a gathering not to be missed, as they will be joined by several other prominent local groups including Well Worn Boot, Dr. Ooo & Mic Excel, KOPPS, and Cultr Club. The party starts at 10 sharp.

Tonight there is a not-to-be-missed triple bill over at DBGB’s featuring a double dose of local talent with The Mordaunt Sisters and Love Scenes, and Boston, psych-rock four-piece Dirty Dishes. As you know, we’ve been gushing about Love Scenes and Mordaunt Sisters here at the blog as much as possible, with Love Scene’s latest release Blissed-Out Youth being featured as our Album of the Week back at the beginning of July and The Mordaunt Sisters, who are consistently popping up on our radar, playing many gigs, not to mention being featured at the #3 spot on 2011’s Top Buffalo Bands list. As for Dirty Dishes, it is a rare experience to hear a psych-rock branded group that can stretch itself to such diverse corners of songwriting. Firstly, there are the vulnerable, 90’s style guitar riffs on display at the start of tracks like “Break” and “Bloom” that are paired so uniquely well with lead singer Jenny Tuite’s tip-toeing, breathless vocals as she ushers us so painlessly in. “Gaze” also starts very much like this, and suddenly the listener is tossed into coerced, seamless drum rhythms and feedback that send a shot of adrenaline along with the icy tag: “We are fading fast.” Within the structure of their songwriting, they tow the same line as alternative 90s gods The Smashing Pumpkins or My Bloody Valentine. This is definitely a show to get excited for, so clear your schedule tonight and get a move-on to Duke’s. The show starts at 10.

Can you believe it has been two whole years since Staples turned in to what might be the most happening place(do people still say happening?) on Allen? 253 Allen has served as my favorite place for fun and questionable debauchery for the last two years, from Queen City Cartel and Frosty Tone shows, countless acts rolling in and even the best cover from start to finish of Weezer's Blue Album that Buffalo has ever witnessed. So, to celebrate their birthday, Duke's has got a present for you. Join Duke's this evening for a complimentary grand buffet and help welcome the new residency of the Night Owls.
