Tonight, the staff at buffaBLOG comes together to celebrate our 3rd annual holiday party at Duke's and you are all invited. This year, our party falls extremely close to Christmas in hopes to reign in a few Buffalo ex-pats and friends returning home for the holidays, those who normally may not get a chance to come to one of our shows. Throughout the week, we have been previewing our rather impressive lineup, at least I think it is, and in case you missed any of the spotlight posts, you can catch up below:

For me, no bands sums up the promise of Buffalo's music scene and Buffalo itself more than Forealists. This Prince and The Revolution meets Passion Pit party/space/electronic funk outfit featuring Rocco DellaNeve, Kevin Urso, Beat Masta Wes, Deshawn "D-Ray" Jackson, and bass queen Zuri Appleby is the sound of past and the future going off simultaneously creating something that's still unfolding before our eyes. The last time I saw them, they'd turned the back room at Duke's into a fantastical dance party freak out that was uplifting, a sensory overload, and completely irresistible. They called for fancy dress and their devoted and growing flock obliged, a lot of people came together and got down, and for a city ridden with barriers and nonsense, it was beautiful... and funky as hell. Forealists are a special band. buffaBLOG is honored to have their next thang be our Holiday Party, and I for one cannot wait.

They didn’t roll in along with the other trending bands swimming in the mainstream these days. All three members have been kickin’ late 90s emo since the late 90s, around when emo actually became a thing.

Dylan England, involved in the Fredonia college scene, has been in numerous bands [Longitude, Balto, Month being a few], all of which are commended in part to his excellent lyricism. From his Del Paxton repertoire: "I'd like your plans to fall right through me" from "Two Planes Away" and Buffalo's favorite line "Well I guess I'm burning a hole in your pocket" from buffaBLOG's BEST SONG OF THE YEAR "Motion Sick."

It's that time of year again!  We buffaBLOGGERS will be hosting our annual Holiday Party at DBGB's this Saturday, December 21st. Of course, we have invited some of our favorite local acts to help us celebrate how great of a year 2013 was for music.  The anthemic Marine Biologist will be opening our party this year - they specialize in atmospheric, post-rock songs like "Allegro," which landed very high in our Best Songs of 2013 list. According to their bandcamp page, their latest batch of songs aims to take the focus off of traditional song structures and overblown instrumentals to focus on the bare bones of what makes music interesting in the first place...  In essence, it's bound to be a magical experience, especially as we introduce the rest of the artists throughout the week.  We'll see you Saturday at 10:00!

Formed in 2003, Lazlo Hollyfeld is certainly one of the most diverse Buffalo bands as they have shared their fresh brand of electro-rock for almost a decade now with Western NYers. The group prides themselves on constantly scanning their musical psyche for new expansive ideas and sounds, and their live performances are usually no different, often accompanied with visuals to supplement their distinctive sonic offerings. The group released their fourth studio album Desert in 2010, which shared conceptual songs inspired by a season of budgeted touring and all of the blessings and hardships that come along for the ride, and its listening experience breeds all of its striking themes with  minimal instrumental builds, congested percussion, and synth and guitar swells. 

Their anticipated follow-up is currently in the works, but that wont stop Lazlo Hollyfeld from playing buffaBLOG’s Holiday Party this Saturday at Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar (DBGBs) which will be a gathering not to be missed, as they will be joined by several other prominent local groups including Well Worn Boot, Dr. Ooo & Mic Excel, KOPPS, and Cultr Club. The party starts at 10 sharp.

They're XXX, dancing under technicolor lights, and eccentrically electronic. They are KOPPS and they'll be performing at our holiday party this Saturday, Dec. 15. The first time I heard of KOPPS, I was impressed. Not only was it a video of them performing one of my favorite Eurodance songs live, but they gave Alice DeeJay's "Better Off Alone" the justice it deserved in a way that left me desiring to jump through the computer screen, transporting myself back through Time and Space to be on The Bug Jar's dancefloor in Rochester. Luckily for you, if you watch and feel the same all you'll need is patience until Saturday at Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar.   

KOPPS, self-proclaimed to be "CrazySexyCreepy," definitely has a seductively unusual sound. It draws you in with its moments of experimentation, dance and soaring vocals.  My favorite tune "Mourning Sex (feat. Joywave)" is strange and entrancing, with chopped vocals, heavy percussion and perfectly timed peaks and breaks. Their current EP Fuck Jams has sexy panting and well orchestrated electronic instrumentals provided by writers of the album Patricia Petrone, Kyle O'Hara, and Daniel Armbruster.

Also if sexual innuendos (or blatant references) are your jam, you'll enjoy their websites. A disclaimer on their Bandcamp page for their EP reads, "for erections lasting longer than 4 hours, please seek immediate medical attention."
