Weekly Remix - Lindstrøm's "Quiet Place to Live"

To call Lindstrøm's new album Six Cups of Rebel a departure is an understatement. Hans-Peter Lindstrøm's long awaited follow up to the epic Where You Go I Go Too (not counting his full length collaboration with Christabelle) ditches much of that album's meditative, patient exploration. Rebel is a looser, funkier, more upbeat affair complete with live drums, soaring guitars and Lindstrøm's own goofy, treated vocals. Anytime an artist takes a sharp left turn, the reviews can be abysmal, like Pitchfork's hilariously off base review (since when have "farty bass riffs smothered in layers of percussion" ever been a bad thing?)It's so easy to get distracted by Lindstrøm's vehement dismissal of nu-disco conventions, you may not notice just how marvelously produced the album is. To whet your appetite, Lindstrøm has produced his own extended disco remix of "Quiet Place to Live", and it combines just about everything I love about music in one track. Check out both the original and the remix below, and give this remarkable album another spin.
