Tonight: Priests


Part post-punk, part dance rock, with heavy flashes of the no-wave variety, Priests kinda rule. The proof's in the pudding. Just look to Tape Two, their awesome cassette only release. The songs are insanely catchy with some hauntingly honest lyrics; vocals delivered via pure, female-fronted, animal aggression. Think a looser version of Shilpa Ray, or Poly Styrene.

Along with buffaBLOG faves, Mallwalkers, and recent Buffalo additions, Newish Star and Hot Tip Priests will be playing the Glitterbox tonight ($6, 6pm). As always ask a punk for the address.

Buffalo's Hot Tip Releases First Demos


Hot Tip, a band that we’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about, finally released their much-anticipated demos to the internet yesterday and it did not disappoint. Consisting of a conglomerate of three punk-regulars on the West Side (Mapmaker, Cross Stitch, and Pang), Hot Tip is exactly what you would expect from that scene, an enjoyable yet slightly raucous post-punkier version of Screaming Females. The demo was recorded by the mind(s) behind Feral Kids Records in the basement of DIY spot, The Glitterbox, but could easily pass for the basement of The Jungle Gym. Check it out below.

Tonight: Punk N' Tots


Valentine's Day weekend is shaping up to be a great weekend for live local music. Why not kick it off early with another installment of Punk 'N' Tots over at Broadway Joe's?

 If you've never been, it's exactly what it sounds like: punk bands playing music, complimentary tater tots. This week, we have Boston punks Draize, local hardcore outfit Resist Control, and the relatively-new-but-totally-awesome Hot Tip. "All Bats Have Eyes and Can See," unfortunately, is not a band name, just a handy bit of trivia printed on the flyer that you can use to impress your friends.

 Click the links to check out Draize and Resist Control. Hot Tip is either too new or too cool to have recordings on the internet, but I saw them at a previous Punk N' Tots show and they killed it. Female-fronted, very raw, very aggressive. Definitely worth catching live.

 Kick off your Valentine's Day weekend early this Thursday. At the very least, you can stand next to other bodies, pretend you aren't alone, and dance off the desperation.

Tonight: Punk & Tots featuring Del Paxton, Why+the+Wires, Deep Pockets, Supergoner, and Hot Tip


The best way to warm up, and this is according to a scientific study I recently saw, is to go to a show and see some good bands. Tonight, you can stay warm by heading to Broadway Joes for music and that other key ingredient to warmth, tater tots. The Punk & Tots series continues with an eclectic selection of bands from all over New York State.

buffaBlog favorite, Del Paxton, will be joined by Why+the+Wires, Deep Pockets, Supergoner, and the new Hot Tip. The bill promises to be a varied one with emo from Del Paxton, indie rock from Deep Pockets, shout and stomp from Why+the+Wires, and classic Superchunk influenced 90’s indie rock from Supergoner. Hot tip, Hot Tip is actually too new for the internet but its members’ past bands (Pang, Cross Stich, Map Maker) pretty much assure the quality of this new act.
As always, the tater tots are free with the cost of admission.

Tonight: No Tomorrow


Catch a wave of fresh bands tonight at the Glitterbox. From North Carolina comes raunchy punk No Tomorrow and from ole' Buff, we have HC Dream Journal and SPERM, and the debut of Hot Tip (an amalgamation of members from Pang, Cross Stitch, and Mapmaker). As per usual, for more info *ask a punk*.
