So a few things happened this weekend. Louis CK hosted Saturday Night Live and Major League Baseball started its new season, but more importantly, the Buffalo band Sexist released two new songs. 

The all-girl trio, Sexist, released “Product” a raw fifty three second teaser of a song, as well as “Bad Feelings.” Comprised of Natalie (bass/vocals) Jamie (guitar/vocals) and Gabby (drums/vocals), Sexist brings, for a lack of a better term, the riot girrrl theme to Buffalo. Both “Product” and “Bad Feelings” scream Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, or pretty much anything Kathleen Hanna has ever touched. “Bad Feelings” is equal parts punk rock and 60’s pop, full of hooks and class accompanied by vocal harmonies. 

Sexist has been together for nearly two years and will be releasing their demo on cassette this Record Store Day (April 19th), in addition to an in-store set at Spiral Scratch. 

This hellish winter has put a spell on all of us, leaving Western NYers drained, stale and, for lack of better words, "over it". So it makes perfect sense that Buffalo surf-punks, Mayday, would name their upcoming tour the "Life's a Beach" tour (It's also an utterly fantastic Kurt Vile jam); a tribute to all things warm, beachy, and awesome. My minds already on to warmer pastures.

Tour kicks off tonight at the Northrup House (ask a punk, 7pm, $6) with a heavyweight bill of locals including Flood Drinker, known for drinking floods, stoner rock outcasts, Malarchuk, Grain Assault (who I assume assaults grain in their spare time?), and Sexist. A cool show to support a cool local band as they go on a cool tour and, hopefully, have some cool times. And while you're at it, buy Mayday's new EP. I hear it rips.

Del Paxton makes me want to fall in love again. Their floaty, swaying brand of technical indie rock is pretty captivating and reminds me of my youth in a pretty great way. If you're a fan of Pinkteron-era Weezer, Sunny Day Real Estate, Nada Surf or any late nineties alternative to the alternative rock, you're guaranteed to like this band.

Tonight they're playing with Living Room from Brooklyn and Buffalo lady rippers Sexist. The Glitterbox is the spot (ask a punk for the address). Get there early to see all them bands (6pm). $6 at the door.
