The snow in Buffalo has finally seemed to stop just as the city seemed to remember where their plows were parked, but our Christmas coverage keeps on truckin. For Day 2 of buffaBLOG's 12 Days of Christmas, we look to Rochester's The Demos for some holiday spirit. Our summer party alumni recently released their pleasantly touching rendition of "Silent Night." As for the "11 O'Clock News" part of the song title, well, someone was listening to some NPR during the recording. Also, lead singer Jay Milton is dressed as a rabbit. So there you go.

The Demos, buffaBLOG summer party vets and buzzing Rochester indie pop band, have released their followup single to 2012's "Primitive," off their forthcoming album, Paramount Clouds. The quintet has a big fall ahead of them, notably playing in Times Square this Saturday (10/12), as part of the CBGB Festival. Their latest single, the jangly turned crunchy power pop tune "Better," is very California sounding, think Phantom Planent or Rooney, which is surprising for a Rochester band. They must not let the lake effect snow get to them. You can listen to "Better" below.

After lengthy planning and a week of previews of participating musicians, the day of the Summer Party has arrived. Our blog parties have always been my favorite part of running buffaBLOG. They are opportunities to introduce someone to their new favorite local act, catch up with old friends, and for our writers to enjoy something other than my pestering text messages. I don't expect tonight at Duke's to be any different. Rochester's The Demos have been churning out power-pop jams since forming as duo of Jason Milton and Callan Saunders back in 2002. Now a full six piece band, they have gained a significant national following after the release of their acclaimed 2011 album, Lovely, playing festivals like CMJ, and Toronto's North by Northeast. The album's success led to the band being picked up by Japanese label Thistime Records, who informed them of their overseas hit status with the infectious, fun-loving pop of single "Nervous." After selling out it's initial run in three weeks, Lovely made the band international pop-rock stars, while still maintaining their status as a home town favorite, playing venues like the Bug Jar and Water Street Music Hall.

Lately, the band has been working on material for their new album, releasing the single "Primitive" which was named one of our ten best tracks out of Rochester last year. With a laid-back take on indie pop brings to mind influences like The Beach Boys, Big Star, and The Beatles, they have only continued to grow as songwriters during their decade long existence. Look for their upcoming album, Paramount Clouds, to be out sometime this year.

In the meantime, you can catch The Demos playing our second annual summer party this Saturday at Duke's. Admission is $5 and the music kicks off at 10pm. Check out their video for "Nervous" to get a glimpse of what the band will bring to the party this weekend.

Tonight, Rochester based band The Demos will be playing a show at Mohawk Place, with openers Sleepy Hahas and Sleepless City. The Demos have only released two studio albums, but they already have a finely tuned sound, a mash up of sorts of early 2000’s garage rock and west coast surf punk acts like Girls. As mentioned before, local bands Sleepy Hahas and Sleepless City will be opening for them, in a blend of different genres. Sleepy Hahas are a bluesy psych rock band with a lot of originality to offer, and based on their music, one can imagine they put on quite the performance live. This band will also be performing at our rooftop show this Saturday as part of Buffalo’s Infringement Festival with acts such as the Albrights and Victory For Poland. Sleepless City is a five piece alternative/reggae band formed around Buffalo NY, and tonight they are playing their final show together. This is definitely not a show to miss. Tonight's cover is $5 while doors open at 7:00pm.
