A hybrid of experimental electronic and offbeat performance art, Lesionread has just released her new EP. Dogs was released in two parts, the first containing Lesionread's avant-electronic at its finest, and Pt. 2 being a collection of jumbled and contorted love songs. The EP will be for sale at the show in the form of a Lesionread flash drive. Dogs is a perfect showcase for Lesionread's successful marriage of soul gripping vocals and playful, violent electronic chaos.

Dogs Pt 1 heads off with the track "If/Then/Therefore" which is the most inspiring song I've heard in a long time. Lesionread shows determination in the face of opposition and disbelief, and kicks snow at it. This one will bobble around your head for quite a while, perhaps motivating you to step out of your boundaries and pursue your dreams. The track "Snowball Fight!" has a backbone comprised of dancy- brainwave, and stands strong as the EP's only instrumental.

Dogs Pt 2 may be the most accurate aural representation of the actual experience of love that I've ever heard. The highs, lows, excitement, confusion and anxiety are all present. On SoundCloud, lyrics are available for all of the songs except the one titled, "I Want to Fall in Love." Instead, the curious party is privy to this interesting message:  "(YOU WISH YOU COULD READ THESE LYRICS BUT NO THEY ARE PERSONAL I'M NOT GUNNA TYPE EM UP ON BANDCAMP."

This statement could be in place for nearly all of the tracks, as many of Lesionread's lyrics come across as the innocent, slightly awkward mental narrations of a torn lover with a shredded heart. You can connect with the songs on a basic human level, even as the instrumentation glitches around you like a bad tape, teasing at different strains while consistently remaining danceable. If Aphex Twin had a kid cousin who was a soulful singer, the music would sound sort of like this.

Tonight's performance (hint: click hyperlink for more info) consists of Lesionread, UVB-76, Kristachuwan, and Copy Manager, and promises to be a mind bending adventure the likes of which may never be reproduced. Lesionread is constantly topping her strange live performances which are thrashing wild and unpredictable. Past shows have contained props, lights, silly string, projectors, and audience interaction. If you walk through the door, you'd better be prepared to play. Come out to the show tonight and expect nothing less but to leave with a lust for enjoyable insanity.

UVB-76, in collaboration with Squeaky Wheel's TechArts for Girls Program, recently released a new music video for their song "2 if by Sea."

Squeaky Wheel's TechArts for Girls Program has been running since 1999 and is"a community action project that encourages girls from the city of Buffalo and Erie County to receive an affordable hands-on education in computers, technology and media literacy." As part of the advanced experimental video workshop, led by teaching artist, Alice Alexandrescu, a group of students listened to the song and then collaborated with UVB-76 to produce the video with a green screen and a collection of found footage. Students individually edited the footage and collectively compiled the final video.

With everyone donning UVB-76's trademark white hazmat suits, the duo and the girls dance around the shifting images on the green screen. The result is a fun video that captures both the song and the overall playful aesthetic of UVB-76's consistently inventive and inspiring music.

If you're looking to kick back with a pint after amassing your Record Store Day booty, Sugar City is presenting a free event down at Essex St. Pub that's worth checking out. A plethora of Buffalo based bands, including Failure's Union, UVB-76, Jack Toft, Handsome Jack, Cages, A Relative Term, and more will be showcasing their music videos with a special screening. The screening will also feature music video premieres from JOHNS and Mallwalkers. The event goes from 9-11, so whether you're still reeling from the fisticuffs you got in with someone over that last Space Wolves cassette, or you've smoked enough weed to realize that you just want to drink without talking to people, make this your stop.

UVB-76, the space traveling electro dance duo who have made their home in Buffalo, NY have just released the video for their blippy, percussion heavy "Flags."  The video sees the flag toating pair in various Delaware parks spots in their signature white jump suits, with some near seizure inducing montages mixed in for good measure.  The duo played  FOUNDRY's launch party at Soundlab earlier this month, as well as some recent gigs at the Uki Club and Duke's.  Fans of Dan Deacon and The Show is the Rainbow should take note. 

Tonight marks the second evening of Foundry's two night launching event at Soundlab, and in case you weren't aware, Foundry is the new production company based in Buffalo focusing on bringing performances and installations that are a product of both "inspired artistry and unconventional aesthetics." As their mission statement might suggest, it'll be a night of exciting, experimental electronic music, driven by beats and reverberations that will steer your head space into hazy, foreign territory. On the lineup is Container, the one man techno connoisseur who will throw everything-you-thought-you-knew-about-techno  somewhere out of sight. As the event-page describes, Container proves that "techno can be sloppy, unordered, punk, and, above all, casual. It's lopsided, asymmetrical and unevenly weighted." Unicorn Hardon, Timeghost, and local favorites UVB-76, and Ay Fast will be gracing the stage as well with equally distinct beats for your aural enjoyment. Tickets are $8, and doors open at 8PM.

I can honestly say the title to this post is one of the last things I ever expected to type on this blog. But, earlier this week, I found this show in my events feed, so here we are.  Located at 205 Military Road, the Uki Club (Ukranian-American Civic Center) will be hosting an evening of traditional Ukranian dishes (including pierogies) and a pretty great bill of local acts.  So while you dine on some holubtsi, enjoy the fine tunes of laid back troubadour Nick Gordon, or maybe you prefer to pair your borscht with the space traveling electronic duo of UVB-76 instead.  And just in case the bar is not serving any Genny or PBR, make sure to grab a couple Obolon beers when alt MC Jack Topht takes the stage.  The rest of tonight's bill is rounded by Malaria Control, Bear Flames, and Pang!.

Joking aside, this seems like a fun event in a different venue than you would normally think for a show.  People tend to complain in this city that there is never anything different to do. Well, problem solved, as least for this evening.  While admission for this all ages event is free, food and drinks are not, so make sure to bring some money for dinner and beverages as this is a cash only night.  Food service begins at 6pm, while the Back Hall will begin the music sets at 9pm.

It would appear that Duke's is the place to be for Holiday Concerts this year. Once again, Brandon Schlia's pay what you want label Steak and Cake Records will be hosting a Holiday Fundraiser Show to benefit the "Let The Band Play On" campaign, providing music instruments to local schools in need. After some Elmwood Village party poopers put the nix on Steak and Cake's Bidwell Indie 5000, it's refreshingly ironic to see that the "scummy party kids" in Bidwell Park are doing more for the community than the crotchety naysayers who shut them down. Help them fight the good fight by plopping your $5 down and treat yourself to an eclectic lineup of performers. Signo Vinces headlines the night, a delectable synth pop collaboration between Brandon and Leah Loefke of Love Scenes. Also on the bill are free form poetry outfit Bourbon & Coffee, art doin' hop hop virtuoso Jack Toft, bouncy electronic duo UVB-76, and a DJ set from Sound Shaman. It's Friday night and the mood is right, show starts at 10pm.

The other day somebody on the blog or Twitter or wherever said that "it's David Byrne's world and we just live in it," and that will certainly be true tonight when Janka Nabay & The Bubu Gang play Soundlab, with UVB-76 and Shape of States opening. Hailing from Sierra Leone in the west of Africa, Nabay made big waves in his home country when he electrified the bubu music traditional to Sierra Leone before fleeing that war torn nation for the US. Traditionally performed with by a 20 person band playing bamboo flutes, Nabay's update of bubu music transformed it into infectious electronic world music, and even though he was considered the man in Sierra Leone, success has been slower going over here, but now he's got a band consisting of the remnants of three Brooklyn indie bands, buzz was built at SXSW, and they were signed this year to Byrne's magnificent Luaka Bop label. Fans of world music, insanely tasty African poly-rhythms, swirling keyboards, and Tom Tom Club would be remiss if they missed this show. 

Local stalwarts UVB-76 and Shape of States will be representing for the Buffalo EDM scene.  Tickets are $10, and Soundlab's doors open at 8 PM.

Tonight, Experimental musician, Kevin Greenspon, will be playing at The Vault. Greenspon's music shifts between ambient, abrasive, and sweeping, often doing so in the course of a single song. To achieve this, Greenspon collages synths, tape loops and guitar creating dense sonic landscapes. Joining him tonight will be local mainstays, UVB-76, Malaria Control, and folk hero Jack Toft.
